Default 6.5"-7" Woofer Suggestions For .75ft3 Boxes...

Other than the Dayton RS180, I'm looking for 6.5"-7" woofers that will work well in a .75ft3 box.

Most I've looked at seem to favor .5ft3 boxes or smaller.

    Thank you...

The Peerless 831735 buyout would hit 40 hz in 3/4 cu. ft. with a 2" X 7" port.

Here's a good start on a proven design.

I have enough crossover parts and drivers for 3 pairs of these. Contact the OP for the crossover design. The speakers are currently on a very low buyout sale, which makes them an excellent value. These are the same 6" drivers used in these $2500 speakers:

You can always add filler to reduce the internal volume. Chunks of wood, or maybe styrofoam.

I like the bass and midrange of the 831735, but the x-over may give you fits like it has me. A lot will depend on where you want to cross, and how the speaker interacts with the room.

You didn't state a price point so I will throw these out there as suggestions:

    the Usher 8945A and 8945P

How high are you trying to cross them over?

More volume in your enclosure is a great thing to have for the woofer - most of us are trying to figure out how to get our speakers SMALLER.

But anyway, check out this thread:

Folks that have used them mostly seem to be quite pleased with that woofer. It does have a remarkable combination of sensitivity + smooth top end.

No, price isn't really an issue.
    How about the Usher 8948A?

I will cross no higher than 2KHz to avoid beaming.

If price wasn't an issue this is definitely what I would go with:

8948A is perfect in a .75cu/ft, gives an EBS-3 alignment with an F3 in the high 30's.

I got one design working with a 1.8k x-over. (Best I remember) But in trying to build a second design with a sloped baffle and different tweeter, I just can't get things to match up. The tweeter is partly to blame too. I prefer woofers that are a little easier to cross where I want.

Edit The working design x-over is 2.5k.

Thanks DoubleTap...can you please explain what a EBS-3 alignment is?

    Extended B a s s Shelf

If you take a driver with a Qts less than .4, you can slightly oversize the enclosure, and tune lower, to create a "shelf" of extended low end response. Instead of "flat" to the -3dB point, EBS alignments might sag 1dB, stay flat for a bit, and then finally drop off, but at a lower frequency than the "flat" alignment.

    Thank you Pete!

Now I see what's going on with that type of alignment.

If you are trying to keep cabinet width down you could run 2 woofers. Use one for BSC.

The boxes are PE .75ft3 boxes with a 10" wide baffle.

Why not use an 8" driver?

Because I don't know of many 8" drivers that will work well for a 2-way.
I have been looking at the Visaton AL 200, but it looks like it favors a larger box.

I think the 8948A that DoubleTap suggested could work very well with a robust tweeter like the Dayton RS28F-4.

I have several of the W6-789S woofers, which is the discontinued shielded version of this woofer.

Frequency response on a 10" baffle is as good as the Peerless '875 or better.
Also, I prefer the sound of the Tang over the Peerless in the mids.

Problem is the T/S parameters I measured are way off from the manufacture's.
    Fs 63.9Hz
    Qts .618
    Vas .624ft3
    Le 1.18mH
    Spl 89.9dB

With a Qts that high, I would think this would be a candidate for a sealed box.
