    Default new Lepai

is a bit different. it has a tone direct button. i hooked it up to the punks and when i cranked it up, i thought they were going to blow! seem to have more power.

The eBay one I bought is still going strong for my daughter. I should pick another one up for the office...

Very similar, except no "tone" button.

Yes, but does it have more quads per channel? I'm gonna guess it's rockin the TK421 modification.

On a more related note: that amp seems like a killer deal for the money.

I have 3 of them sitting in front of me. One is without a case and just had the output capacitors replaced and the input capacitor replaced with a 4700uf one. The power supply was also replaced with a 6A 12V adapter. You think your Lepai amp puts out a lot of power and sounds good? You should hear mine.

The factory amp's front LED lights dim on hard bass beats if you push slightly larger speakers at higher volumes, and it won't be much longer past that point that the amp will simply shut down due to undervoltage. Compared to the one I have with the replaced output capacitors, the factory amp sounds like its being played in a bathroom. Its shallow and lifeless by comparison.

I have a thread about this if anyone's interested. There is definitely room to improve on these.

Hey XtremeRevolution , is that the TK421 modification the others were talking about?

No, I believe the TK421 modification was intended for the 2010 version of the amp. The 2011 version is entirely different and from what I hear, has much better quality right out of the box.

I simply took the small film capacitors (likely mylar) with a -20%/+80% tolerance and replaced all 6 of them with polypropylene 5% tolerance capacitor and gained a noticeable increase in sound quality. Critics can yell foul and claim that its a purely subjective difference, but I've blind tested these with 3 people in my house who know little to nothing about home audio and the modified one always sounded better. More full, rich, and clear.

    Here's the project thread.

LOL, you guys are cracking me up!

Listen to the first minute of this video they explain what the TK421 is:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6DRZlytJpQ

It is the same modification/video Paul referred to above... It's all about the "quads per channel" as bolland explained.
