    Default Home theater speaker suggestions

I am designing my basement theater and I am looking for diy speaker recommendations. I may be a little ambitious but what diyer isn't?

My theater dimensions are 14' x 22' x 9'. I have read so many threads that my head is about to burst. The one project that stood out was posted by Soundslike (http://techtalk.parts-express.com/sh...d.php?t=222519). I am planning to place the speakers behind the screen and concealled in columns around the room. The tritrix design may fit the concept I am envisioning.

Any suggestions, recommendations or questions are gladly welcomed!

IMO for a Ht speaker you want to blend seamlessly to a sub at any volume level and have a center with great dispersion and strong vocals. I would look into sealed speakers that extend down to 60 or 80hz as a rough -3db point and a 2nd order rolloff below that.. dynamics outweigh raw extension because you will likely be running them 'small' anyways.

A lot of people say horizontal MTM centers are fine but this would not be my experience. not only do they get harder to hear clearly off axis, but also sound very suffocated and 'boxy' on axis. Vertical MTMs may not be practical of course.

For the price range you wont go wrong with the Tri Trix! A good all around performer and will make a pretty nice HTS!

On the surrounds, I'd be tempted to use a simple 5.5" TM 2-way in order to spray the sound around a bit. Not saying it will be better, but that's what I think I would like better. Surrounds are also a good place to cut corners, and allow more money to be spent on mains, center, or sub.

Okay, so here's what I would do if i were you - at least when it comes to subwoofers

Four of these woofers, while they're still available.

Great suggestions. I just read up on the trxtrix and you can't beat the price. Would you use the tritrix for a center? I searched but didn't find information on the 5.5 tm-2. Where can I find the information.

    TIA

Thanks for the fast resopnse. I plan to place the surrounds in columns around the theather. The mt's are deeper than the columns but I am assuming I can modify the depth and maintain the volume by increasing the height. Is this an accurate statement?

Default Speakers completed, now I need another sub

I recently completed the tritrix speakers and they sound fantastic! Will post pics later. now i need another sub to complement the Speakercraft 12x I have. It was suggested I purchase a Triad slimsub 4 and conceal it in one of the columns around the theater. I would prefer to build therefore I am looking for assistance. My column dim are approx. 12"w x 10" d x 36" tall cavity.

    What are your suggestions?
