Polk PSW404 overheating?
Any help appreciated.
What I think happened - system turned-up past functional range and either amp or spkr (sub) component failed.
Whats happening @ subwoofer (2 related items?) - (1) speaker 98% unresponsive - barely audible can feel vibration with finger touch to cone *(2) *when sub is turned on the heat syc gets HOT fast! *(normally warm unless really driving it for period)
What I've done-*Verified fuse ok,*cable interconnect good,*visually* checked circuitry heat/component,*Verified internal wiring
***changes*** Lastly re-routed wiring from source to sub & front spkrs (sub now unfiltered, 2-pair speaker wire goes from amp to sub then from sub to fronts...).*
Problem has to be with sub since sub won't respond to either wiring scenario? *BEING Fronts still have lows which overlap subs range AND now running from same physical wires...? *Right? *If right-What do I check in the sub?

Re: Polk PSW404 overheating?
I think your sub is bad.
Checking the fuse is only helpfull if the unit wont power on... btw
You claim the heatsink is typically warm after normal playback... But now since you were beating on it... When ever you power it on it gets hot fast? Sounds like the amp for the sub has a issue. Something is shorted and pulling a lot of current (heat). You can try and unhook the sub and see if that makes the heat go away, very unlikly. If it does, ur sub is blown. But more in likly the amplifier section of your subwoofer is toast.
I would use this as time to upgrade and diy yourself a beast for the living room...
Sorry to hear a piece of audio gear went down.
