    Default series crossover question

Is it possible to set up a first order low pass on the W and a second order high pass for a tweeter via a series crossover? Looks like it would work, unfortunately I have an Apple computer so I cannot run http://www.pvconsultants.com/audio/crossover/scd.htm to establish the component values and model the crossover. I was looking at the new Fostex 165WK with their T925A super tweeter targeting ~5500hz.

In any event, has anyone tried a first order low pass second order high pass series crossover? And comments suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Yes- it works. The Newest and prior PCD release combined the SCD sheet into it, so the PCD suite now does both parallel and series xovers.

Do a search for the Acoustic Reality SXO, and give it a shot. You will require an L-pad on that output beast tweeter though...

Yes, I've used series with 1st order on the woofer and 2nd order on the tweeter successfully, more than once.

However, it helps to have some measurement equipment and simulation software for series crossovers. You might try for the AR series crossover though, as suggested by Wolf.

Default thanks, did you use impedance correction on the W

..or just go with a coil straight to the W?
    Thanks

I do have test equip, I'll need to locate a PC for some upfront cals first.

For series crossovers, I typically use impedance compensation on the woofer. That generally improves the chances for a circuit to be designed with a relatively flat impedance below, through, and above the crossover region.

As far as power handling, a flat impedance doesn't really matter for most SS amps, but it makes the load more tube-friendly.
