    Default Little Amp

Hello all. I need a little amp for a side project. It needs to be right around $10 and the only ones i'm finding on ebay that i like are a Lepai and a Kinter. I know you probably will tell me to get something more expensive, but i really can't fit it into my budget. If anyone has a small amp there're looking to get rid of, i'd love to take it off your hands, i need it sooner then later, and both of these are from hong kong, and will take up to a month to get here. Thanks for helping, and I was hoping for some sort of advise on what one to pick. I'm leaning toward the lepai, but i'm not sure.

This I think is the lowest cost option you'll find. You would have to power it with a 12V wall wart, something with decent output, they suggest 2000mA regulated.

Unless someone on the board has something small they would sell you.

There are a few small amps for sale on PE's ebay link, who knows what they'll go for.

$10 isn't much. Have you tried a thrift store near you? You may be able to get something (probably bigger than you want) for around $10 or so.

Default Computer speakers from a thrift store

I've done a few projects with amps out of a pair of computer speakers. The local thrift stores always have a few sets. They're very low powered, but they do come with speakers and power supply. They aren't audiophile quality, but they're cheap and fun.

At work our Director of IT Systems gives me a call everytime he upgrades someone's PC. All the new Dell computer systems come with a sound bar under the flat screen, so he gives me their old Altec Lancing desktop PC speakers. They have a nice little amp circuit board with a volume and tone control and they use a TDA2007A chip amp. I believe these are rated at 6 wrms per channel into 4 ohms. The wall wart is rated at 15 VAC, 1100 mA. Maybe something like that would work out for you. I saw a bunch of the same sets of PC speakers at our local thrift store and they only wanted $5 each. They also had a couple sets of 2.1 PC speakers for $15. Even if the drivers/enclosures are complete crap (read thin plastic boxes and blown drivers) the amp/crossover board is at least worth something...

I don't have one to post a picture of right now. I gave one that I built as a gift and the other is in storage; I'm near the Missouri River and I had to put all my stuff in storage for fear of being flooded. Anyway... I bought a pair of powered computer speakers, but not the type with the sub-woofer. The pair had a wall wart for the power supply. I took them apart and put the amp in a cigar box with a hole drilled in the front for the volume/on-off control. I mounted some RCA jacks and speaker terminals on the back of the box and screwed down the circuit board that was the amp and... viola... I had a cool looking little amp. Any time I hit the thrift stores, I grab a pair of computer speakers if available.
Does that help? Next time I get to my storage unit, I'll see if I can find one. Shoot me any questions and I'll try to answer them.
