measuring speakers

old question. How do I measure a speaker? Do measure the whole speaker meaning from one extreme edge (including screw hole across speaker to oposite side) or do I measure just the speaker itself ( not including the screw holes on the edge of the speaker. I have a old vetter radio pod that has a four inch hole but if i measure from screw hole to screw hole its 4.5 inch. How do i measure a speaker to fit this. lol
