    Default Dotd; any good?

Not a bad looking driver. Is it any good? Has anyone used it?

I had thought about picking a few of them up, but noticed they look like a major PITA to mount properly. Otherwise, very nice looking driver. No idea how "good" it might be, but odds are it would be usable enough for an affordable TM.

I picked up two of those at the tent sale for $6. They have very attractive cones and surrounds. The frame will require a thick gasket but it should mount easily in a standard rebate (i.e. no chamfer on the frame's OD). The frames are not beefy, but they are no more flimsy than HiVi B4N. If I remember correctly their T/S measured really close to published specs after break in. I can check that when I get home from work. The only weird thing about them was that the terminals were sort of tarnished black. That shined up fine with a little scotch brite pad. I surmize they made a long trip on a slow boat from India and the sea air attacked the surface of the terminal's plating. Otherwise they look like a nice driver.

This is the response I got by using measured parameters. Not much bass in this 14" H, 10" D, 6.5" W (internal) box.

The port is 2" dia. X 5" long and located AT the bottom of the box. The driver is centered 3.64" from the other end of the box.

    I'm building 6 of these.

I'll be watching for anyone who will post a x-over suggestion.

How does the excursion look in that model at about 25 Watts Ed? I modeled them in smaller sealed enclosures and they behave well staying under published xmax at 25 Watts and 101 dB. An F3 of 74 Hz says they would be okay high passed and augmented by a sub.

16 W is enough to drive the unit to the 3.5 mm Xmax. Output with that is ~104 dB.

I think these really need to be crossed @ 80 Hz and above. YMMV

Would they do any better 2.5way or mtm, both in series?

I just modeled 2 of them wired in series for a MTM in a sealed enclosure that is 20L (.71 cubic feet) total. No problems with xmax @ 50 Watts. SPL ~ 107 dB with a F3 of 78 Hz. You can get them to play lower in a BR enclosure but the box gets pretty big and would still need a sub to fill in the bottom.

So, really not an exciting driver. Good for a 2.1 setup, or surrounds.
    Thanks for lookin.

Yeah, not a bad driver, just nothing to get real excited about. I'm going to build a small cheap pair of speakers for Maddie's room. Is the Leprai amp 4 ohm stable?

Yes. I have driven this 2 ohm driver with it without any problems (testing at not extreme levels):

They will clip if you try to crank it.
