Polk LS90 Clone
I have accumulated all of the OEM parts to clone the LS90. The speaker seems to have a cult following from "Polksters". I have the OEM crossover schematic & (surprise), it is only a 5 element design. The original is a TMMMM. Since the crossover is not that complicated, I am thinking as to whether there would be an audible improvement to change the baffle layout to MTMMM. Any thoughts or should I leave it be?

Are you going to use their crossover, or do your own?

If I leave the layout as OEM, I will use that crossover. But I will upgrade the NPE's and iron cores.

Re: Polk LS90 Clone
If you stick to their crossover schematic, keep the driver arrangement the same.

Re: Polk LS90 Clone
man, this brings back memories. The LS70 was one of my first "audiophile" speakers. I bought them used for $500. I'll be interested to follow this thread.

Re: Polk LS90 Clone
I happen to be sitting beside my LS-70s with the simulated rosewood finish right now. Great speaker in its time. If the performance of my diy projects comes close to meeting LS-70s I feel I have done well. My tritrix set may not have the low end of the polks but the imaging is better.

Re: Polk LS90 Clone
I too will be keeping an eye on this thread, hopefully you be building soon. I have a pair of the LS90s and from what I understand they are in another league then the 50s or 70s. People say they are they best speaker Polk ever made. You know there is an original and revised crossover so build the revised. Mine had the original but I changed it and switched to poly caps and air core inductors. I'd love for someone to get measurements on them and design a proper crossover because even now with minimal components they do sound excellent. I also have the cs400 center, nice center as well.

Re: Polk LS90 Clone
I have the schematic for the revised crossover. MDF cut this weekend. 1.25" baffles, .75" everything else. They will be 3 cu ft ea with a 4" port tuned to 35 hz.
