Recommend a 6.5 or 8" bass unit for sealed sub?
finding this a little tricky. Building a smallish sub to go with two full range sats. I don't need slamming loud bass, just fast transient response, crisp tight bass at medium volumes. The best driver I found so far is the HIVI M8N but I'm looking for a slightly smaller box volume if poss, so a high QTS/ low Vas driver wd be ideal.

Budget? Box size limitations?

if you don't mind used, EPI and AR 8" drivers, or a Smaller Advent woofer....
the dayton 7" aluminum cone will get down to about 40hz in a ported .38 cubic foot cabinet...

Have you looked at the "Woofer Selection Guide"?

What do you mean by small? I wanted a small footprint, so I made the Anarchy Tapped Horn and so far I am quite impressed. I'm just running one, and like you listen at medium volumes (maybe around 75 dB average and peaks around 90(?)...and that would be loud for me).

Unless this a bottom budget build, i don't think you'll do any better than the Dayton RSS210HF...... .50Q and low Fs. Small sealed box with the right amp and you're golden.

Alpine SWR 823D
Heck, you might use this driver as woofers in a 3-way, if ya had six of em!

also small footprint, how about a pair of ND105-4? basically a nano neo NTN without the tweeter? I think -3db is in the mid 40's...

You can also get dual-2ohm or dual-4ohm VCs, giving you whatever your amp can drive.

Re: Recommend a 6.5 or 8" bass unit for sealed sub?
Sorry not to reply earlier - looking at a sub no more than a cubic foot and now I decided to stick with a sealed to avoid any possible issues and save time.
I'm in the UK at the moment so I have to give Dayton a miss ..too expensive. Also Elemental too (why didi they stop making their excellent 6.5" woofer?)
I'm looking at the Peerless SLS 8" which I can get for around £50 and also thinking to spend a lot more (£150) and try the british made Bandor 150, made by the legendary Doreen Bance. This is one of the best drivers of its size and gets down to 40 hz f3 in a sealed cubic foot(pretty good). The 100W power rating of the Bandor is adequate for this build.
