Flush mounting help.....
ok so I want to buy the bushing needed to flush mount with a template. Basically I made a template by cutting using the driver guiding the router along the outside of the router base. I then use the template and use the cutout as the guide for the router base. Ok so now the cutout is 1/4" too big as expected but what I need to know is what size router bushing to use on final cutout? I read somewhere it was 3/4, should be the same for all right?
I have a 1/4" uncut spiral and an OLD Rockwell router which I think has a porter cable style base from what I can tell.

Can I get a bushing for the dewalt plunge base?

Re: Flush mounting help.....
sorry I didn't get back sooner, you should be good to go with a 3/4" bushing. But, try this on scrap first!!!!

Re: Flush mounting help.....
I recently used the exquisite audio method using everything their web site post advised and my test cutout was a hair too tight for my irregular shaped Klipsch drivers. Not good.
I cut another template and had the same result. I used 3/8" plywood for the template .
So, instead of the 3/4" bushing I tried a 5/8" bushing and it worked out, although there is a tad more rebate space around the driver than I would prefer.I was going to also try a 3/8" spiral bit on a 3/4" bushing but didn't get that far.
I'll post baffle pictures when I'm finished next week. Paint's drying on them right now and crossovers are being assembled.
Actually that slightly larger rebate worked out better as when I cut out the driver opening with my Router Buddy the center punch was off around 32nd of an inch . Finding the dead center of an irregular shaped driver was not as exact as it should have been.

This can happen if the bushing isn't exactly on center with the bit. I rotate the router and make several finish passes keeping the router at the same orientation. That seems to get the cutout to fit. If I'm going to mount several drivers I make one template using this method and use a router bit with a top bearing to make multiple rebates.

Re: Flush mounting help.....
Ron's right mentioning this about the bushing remaining in the same position with relation to the template to stay the same dimension throughout the
cutting . My plunge router has 2 circular plunge post pieces that jut out past the housing a little that bumped into the corners when routing.... so I had to rotate the router to keep it within the template.
I used the baseplate centering piece that came with the kit before tightening the baseplate

Re: Flush mounting help.....
Don't wanna be captain obvious here and have you guys say "duh" but most routers come with a centering device (my dewalt did at least) it's for centering the sub bases. I don't know what I would do without it! Actually I do, with my old craftsman router it didn't come with one so my circles would be a slightly different size every time I changed the regular base to the circle jig every time...

None of my routers came with a centering device for the sub plate. On top of that the bushing set I have are a little sloppy in the sub plate. My jasper jigs do have a centering device and the holes seem to be very repeatable.

Oh dang man you're missing out! I didn't even know what it was when I first got it out of the box when I got my dewalt, but once I realized what it was I was like THANK YOU !!! It is just a cone shaped thing with a hole in it, then there is a peice of 1/2" steel that fits in the 1/2" collet, then you put the cone into that with the subbase in the middle and it centers it perfectly, then you can screw the subbase down... It's a life saver!

You might be able to buy an aftermarket "centering cone" somewhere.. I would highly recommend it!
