Default Winters coming, and this time I am prepared...

I have a lot of cabinets already to go, just need to make the driver cutouts. That will be done this weekend.

In addition to the Amara (an on-going battle, not sure I can reconcile my tendency towards simple crossovers with metal cones) I have a pair of cabinets built for my eventual 5.2 channel HT - they are for the rear surrounds which will be a 6 ohm 6.5" silver Bravox and Vifa BC25SG15 tweeter. I have ultra high hopes for that project. The initial measurements I took of the Bravox woofer are very promising, and the tweeter is now a well known entity.

I have a pair of TM cabinets built for another buyout project using a Jamo 5.5" woofer and the Nuance -120 wave guide tweeter. So far, I have measured four Jamo woofers and of those four - only one showed any signs of a break up, and that was fairly mild. This has the same cone material as one of the other ones I measured so I have high hopes for this one as well

I have a pair of MTM cabinets for an MTM using the Peerless of India 3" and Nuance TW5 tweeter. Just gotta use this stuff up! Be pretty large for a pair of 3" woofers, but on the other hand they will probably not cost anything to build.

So that is four pairs of speakers that already have 80% of the sawdust created.

If I get a wild hair this weekend, I will cut the subwoofer cabinets for my twin 12" subwoofer project. I ordered a pair of those clearanced grills to use with them, have to wait and see what size they are. PE claims they can vary up to 1/2" from nominal Hopefully my pair are close to the same size

There is a nip in the air tonight which is reminding me that my garage is not heated and hopefully by getting the cabinets pre-built I will actually be creating designs this winter rather than ordering drivers

This reminds me of the story of the grasshopper and the ants. I guess in this scenario we're the grasshopper.

Actually I chuckled a bit when I saw this because I was thinking of doing this very thing the other day. Except that I was going to do ONE pair and ONE sub. Where in the world are you putting all of these speakers and when do you sleep?

Hey, I'm with you on this! I have one set of my IKEA modular baffleXchange cabs made and I have two other sizes that I hope to put together before the winter (AKA rainy season out here) hits. This should give me plenty of cabinet options (60L, 80L and 150L) for various 2-way and 3-way projects. This leaves me to do the crossover development inside, where the weather is not an issue.

Sounds like you have a good workable plan, Johnny, I'll be looking forward to all of the details as they come out.

Yep, busy Johnny... I sleep from around 10 AM to 5 PM every day.

Charlie: that was my thoughts exactly.

Sounds like our schedules are reversed Johnny. It's been too hot here most of the summer, so I've been doing my driver collecting for builds this fall and winter when it's cool enough to go outside to do the nasty mdf cutting. I did do some cutting this weekend for a budget sub I've been wanting to build for a while now.

I've been working on something or other, the entire summer. I've got a 3300 CFM swamp cooler, as they are affectionately known here in the land of Pee Deis, Gila Monsters, and Duellati, and I kept it going pretty much non stop blowing in my direction at least. It made things tolerable... I'm looking forward to some cooler weather, but I'll be whining about how cold it is before long.
