Thread: Resistor Values

    Default Resistor Values

    Hi all,

I'm new here, and I recently ordered a fantastic Overnight Sensation flat pack kit from Erich H (thanks again, Erich). I started to put the crossovers together, and I noticed that the kit shipped with an off-value resistor. The resistor in question is the 10 ohm R2, in the upper right hand corner of this image.

The kit shipped with all the listed parts, but only one 10 ohm resistor, and one 1 ohm resistor for R2. I don't have a multimeter to check the 1 ohm's actual value. So question is, can I just drop the 1 ohm resistor into the R2 spot? Should I go to Radio Shack and pick up a different resistor? If so, do I need a wirewound ceramic one (and would Radio Shack have ceramic resistors?)

    Thanks a bunch,
    Justin

Your local Radio Shack probably does have a 10-ohm 10-watt resistor in stock.

Radio Shack 271-132. Sometimes PE ships the wrong part like that. If you let them know they'll ship the correct part out to you right away.

Fraid not; I'm in Ann Arbor.

Slightly new problem: my local radio shack had 10 ohm 10 watt resistors, but only in a 10% tolerance as opposed to 2% or 5%. I went ahead and bought them anyway, but before I solder em up, are there any foreseeable problems?

    Thanks,
    Justin

With 10% tolerance, you're talking a 9-11 ohm resistor... you'll be fine! Good Luck.

Figured as much, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks for the help.
