Default silverflute, peerles, north center channel

started this last weekend. based the shape on my 3-way mains in curved cabs. this, of course is just a half curved cab. 24x9x15 when finished. i matched the halfs to a brace i had leftover. two sides plus two braces/sided for the mid compartment. baffle is three layers of 3/8.mdf.

figured out i couldn't use the pipe i bought.

hopfully, when i take the straps off, the first piece wont smack me in the nose. im useing pl premium.

cutting the north tweeter on the tablesaw was nerve wrecking but worked out perfectly. ill take a pick in the morning.

    thanks, so far, so good.
this morning i added a 3/8 bottom and another top. while i was cranking on the straps, it broke. i make another real quick but this time kerf cuts were employeed. lesson learned. took about 5 min to do this and did not have to crank on the straps. i filled the cuts with pl premium as well as the destination. only used brads at the baffle to prevent slipage.

the peerless is the 830872 4" hds. truncated. i knew when i saw it on the bargain shelve for $5 it had found a home.

Nice work Arlis -- curved work is challenging, but the outcome is gonna be so appealing. Looking forward to more posts...

Arlis, your build is coming along great. One suggestion I would make is if your going to do a lot of curved work , invest in a vaccum bag system it will be the best money you have ever spent and you will find more uses for it than you can imagine. R.K.

i have seen those but i do really well with the straps. now i know that anything thicker then 1/8 needs a kerf cut.

well i was able to do some more work on these finally. we moved back to council bluffs now that the fear of flooding is over. have worked every weekend for a bit.

anyway......did alot of priming, sanding, painting, more sanding, more painting. this is what i got.

measured all the drivers. woofers are series. about 3db bsc. tweeter is giving me a hard time and overall impenance is giving me a headach. any suggestions? if anyone wants to play with this i could send the excel file.

i have never had the low phase join the mid and tweeter phase like this. the reverse nulls are very weak at this point.

maybe the nulls and phase are ok but what about the impedance?

those two show reverse nulls for the mid and the tweeter. the impedance is up there.

Looks great Arlis! I think if your electrical phase isn't too wonky (technical term) where your impedance drops down, you should be fine. How's it sound?

not so goo. i just changed the woofers to paralelle and remeasured all drivers. back to rm now and then pcd from scratch.
    ill get back to you.

well i started over from step one. remeasured all drivers with the sf woofers in parrallel. it sounds really good.

both tweeter and mid are reverse polarity. measured a few degrees below axis with grill on. very glad i aborted the first attempt. 12 parts total. two of the cap values are multiple caps.

Arlis, that is outstanding. I like the slight BBC dip and since you need both mid and tweet in reverse, you pulled off a true LR design. Well done!

thanks johnny. i added one more coil after that omnimic graph. so now 4th order on the tweeter. been watching movies tonight. much better then my ole mtm polk. had it crossed at 60hz too, but this one can actually do it.

what do you mean, a true LR

Meaning you hit a good LR target on all the slopes. Well done!
