Default OT - stopped by Madisound today

I have been assigned as project manager for our company building a new sales branch in Madison. So after meetings with the general and sub contractors this morning I decided to head over to Madisound. I have purchased from them in the past but never thought to visit even though they are less than an hour away. I met a guy there named Andy. He was very nice/outgoing and showed me around a bit. They had lots of cool finished speakers and some impressive looking tube amps and other gear. I was a bit surprised though that they didn't have a retail sales "show room" like PE. But for fun I said to Andy "got any of those RAAL tweeters laying around?" He darted off and quickly returned with one to show me. Thing weighed as much as a brick! (that was just for you Pete )

I think Madison is just not big enough for a "real" showroom, though If I remember correctly before they moved (they used to be on the lefthand side of where they are in that strip) their demo room with the finished speakers was bigger, now when I go in they just say, "Hi, Cindy's in the back", and I just wonder around till I find her, it's pretty rare if any other outside customers are in there.
Used to be about 4 popular higher-end (wouldn't call them "real Hi-end") shops in Madison, and 1 just outside of Madison (in Cross Plains), now only two in Madison remain. Same with custom car audio.

Actually, Madisound is the "big dog" in the audio parts business. They are number one. It's been a few years since I saw the sales ranking but at that time, PE was number 4. Madisound does a huge OEM business. Meniscus was number 3 and I forget who number 2 was.

I hope my comment about their lack of a show room didn't come off as if I thought the company was not good. I haven't bought anything from them in quite a while (a decade or so). I buy almost everything from PE now. But I remember their customer service and delivery being just as good.

This I know, I'm just talking about why they don't have a real showroom, I hear them taking orders for 3000 units at a time...
I remember hearing about them before the internet. I know they've been around since in the 70's but I didn't get into the diy audio scene till the mid 80's

Nope, I didn't take your comments wrong and I wasn't trying to put any business down. Many of the audio companies depend on their commercial customers rather than the DIY crowd to generate their income.
