Default Nano Neos / ntns - On SALE

I'm been informed ("Black Friday" thread) the the ND105-4's are on sale for $16 a pop. That's $22 saved on a pair of Nanos, and $44 saved on a pair of ntns.

I'm guessing that makes for about $90 for a pair of Nano Neos, and maybe $150 for the ntns.

    Good through Friday.

Also, it looks like the prices on the SA sub amps HAVE BEEN rolled back (wrong prices in new 2012 catalog).
    SA25 $36
    SA70 $60
    SA100 $90
SA240 $98 (Holiday Flyer special price)

    Yeow!

Yeah, really tempted to get the parts for some NTNs. I was going to build some OS MTMs before but this is tempting with the price reduction. Not sure how the 2 designs compare other than that I've just built a single OS MTM and LOVE how it sounds. Rumor has it the NTN has more/lower bass, treble should be very similar (same tweeter).

Also been contemplating a subwoofer using 2 or 4 of the ND105-4 drivers for my truck... to fit under the back seat. It would be really funny to say "listen to those 4's bump!"

Thanks for bringing this to my attn. DJ.
Not sure how or why they're on sale (not in the Nov/Dec flyer). Didn't see them on the "Early Holiday Specials" page. I'm glad they are though. It'd be great if they backed my ND20 down to say, . . . $5 bucks!

    Yeow!

    If you don't mind . . .

I just plugged the $10 (SPECIAL sale price) Peerless (neo) BC25SC55 into my Nano Neos design (using the "budget" 7-element XO), and it's basically a drop-in for the (NOW) $18 ND20FA-6 if you just change the 3n SR to 4 ohms (additional 2 to 3 dB padding).

Essentially the same response. Still what I'd call an 8 ohm nominal design (barely dips to 5n between 150-300 cycles). Still all Neo! You've just got one more unattractive driver to look at, and you'll have to increase the woofer/tweeter spacing slightly. Small price to pay.

    How small?
    2 290-212 ND105-4 woofers (Black Friday price) 15.90 = 31.80
    2 264-1024 BC25SC55 tweeters (Nov-Dec sale) 10.00 = 20.00
    2 255-044 #20 0.80mH coils . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5.88 = 11.76
    FOUR 027-332 4.7uF npe caps . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.46 = 1.84
    2 027-340 10uF npe caps . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.67 = 1.34
    2 015-3.3 5w resistors. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.36 = 0.72
    2 015-4 5w resistors . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.36 = 0.72
    2 015-15 5w resistors . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.36 = 0.72

Total $68.90 and everything's In Stock

    Happy Holidays

I was just going to ask about the driver spacing!! I actually have several BC25SC55's and now with the midbass drivers on sale, it's a done deal!!

I have a quick question -- Would it be possible to rear-mount the BC25SC55 and do a chamfer on the cutout -- sort of extending the waveguide, or will that screw up the phase alignment? What if ALL the drivers were rear-mounted?

If this is too involved of a question....sorry.

    Thanks.

How about the ntn's -- plans in the works for a flat-pack for those? There's been a lot of buzz about the sale price of the ND105-4's....so I'm sure people are stocking up....just waiting for you to post a link to the ntn flat pack!!

Seriously either the NTNs or ONS MTMs are going to round out my surround sound system. The pricing on your flatpacks is absolutely too good to pass up.

I was asked to build a set of desktop monitors for one of my son's teachers (the same guy we gave the Wildeman 2.1 to). Given the rapidly deteriorating weather here in Chicago, I was going to give in and buy a few of Erich's flat packs...so, like you, it was either going to be the Nano Neos or the OS. With the sale pricing on the drivers for the Nano Neo's, that sealed the deal for me. I got enough drivers to do a set of ntn's too, but I don't think there's a flat pack for that one. Wish there was...if there is, please post a link. I hate working in the garage when it's ZERO degrees.

From reading another thread concerning the flat packs I believe Erich is or was thinking about making a mtm kit for the ONS but I'm not sure he has yet; I know was having issues with a supplier.

FWIW, I've heard the Nano Neo's and the ntn's built by a couple different people. They have always stuck in my mind as one of those designs that "should not sound that big." I'm a big fan of those.

If you build the ntn's you'll be very happy.

Is either display more suited to wall mounting? My side rears need to be mounted on wall and the rear back will have to be some sort of ceiling mount.

I've been following Soundslike's build thread, but he's flush-mounting the drivers....which I could not do, especially with the truncated Vifa. I want to rear-mount them. Maybe I will just try it in one Nano Neo and see what happens?

Should I be worried about phase? Am I obsessing again?

The volume of the OS cab (using the B4N) is nearly exactly 1/2 the volume of the Nano Neos (ND105-4, tuned and play about 10 Hz deeper). Erich has an OS pack, he also has an OSMTM pack and a Nano Neos pack that share dimensions and 4 of 6 sides. The baffles are different (driver type and count), and the rear panels are different (OSMTM uses 2 vents, the same dia. as the Nano's single rear vent, which gives a different tuning). Both designs use the same tweeter. They've both been available for a while now.

The CNC company was slow to get them done, but they've been cut for about a month.

The full kits are there as well. I've been busy working with the new CNC company to get things lined up for some other flat packs. Also working with another company to get some really nice waveguides made up.

Parts ordered for the Vifa tweet version, (with 2 extra 105's for future use, brings cart to $100.70 ).

Since I am re-purposing the wifes OS's to be used as our rear surrounds in the HT, the Nano's will be perfect.

I just ordered 2 woofers and 2 tweeters and some SA100 amps for another project. I'm sticking with the original tweeters so I won't have to mess with that square faceplate. I'm off to order flat packs because even though it was a record high 67 here yesterday it won't be anywhere near that tomorrow.

    I like bargains.

I thought it was good opportunity to learn how to flush-mount irregular shapes... better to get that experience with a budget/small build

I have enough experience already. I'd like something I can throw together by Christmas if possible.
