Line array design is a very critical set of formulas, you must have enough cabs to acchive the length to get coupling/ directivity below 500hz, you must have close matching between the ends of the hf drivers, ie: twin 8" mids and single 1" horns have greater gaps between stacked cabs than twin 10" and dual 1" horns, and some 12" cabs have gaps between dual hf horns, etc
designs with butterfly mids allow extension of the hfs wave guide, and mid drivers giving wide coverage of 120' but you get more spill off axis, than designs with 10x 90' coverage.
one of the most important diy aspects is the linking hardware, which must be easy to link up, but stong and safe to fly in wids over audience heads,
P audio in Thailand make a range of different hf drivers and wave guides to suite different cab designs.
In the UK, when we dont have the budget for JBL/ EV/ Martin etc,We have imported a Pacfic Rim designed Line array cabs (Pacrim.co.uk)that use Celestion drivers, which work fine on Comedian roadshow/ house of worship/ paging/ instalation type events, but for Louder/ critical clarity events, we upgrade the supplied components to German made BMS drivers for greater powerhandling, but that adds to the cost to the end customer, but at least the original cabinet design was substantial and can cope with the stresses of daily touring.
best of luck with your designs, and keep us enthusiasts informed!

And with that in mind: I would strongly suggest that without a basic understanding of these formulas and the intrinsic limitations of line arrays, the outcome is questionable.

Really need a little more. I mean can you get away with column arrays stacked or are you looking for a fully flown situation.

Flying is not really semi-pro in my book. That involves serious work. However columns can be pretty cool in their own right.

The array will be flown 35 feet in the air. I could do columns but not with 6 cabs a side.

    Very good SR gear.

"What do you think this system sounds like??"

That will depend entirely on the proper setup, calibration and tuning of the system, the quality & placement of the mic's, the quality & capabilities of the mixing desk & rack gear and the ability of the FOH engineer.

Absolute crap without the correct processing, and with it it'll sound like a decent point source system.. because 3 line array boxes per side does not make a line array.

It will work as a line source in the higher frequencies, as a point source in the lower frequencies. How low it will operate as a line source depends on the system height. This applies to all line array cabs, not just these. For that matter it applies to all speakers.

If you don't know why did you buy them?

I bought them knowing they sound good to me and the people I do it for. I wanted a higher person telling my there knowledge on the system.

These are similar to the speakers we use in my church, although we use just one per side, it is notable however, that each enclosure has 3 tweeters in a vertical array. Their sound is incredibly powerful, yet completely unstrained. We're pushing them with a QSC amp in stereo and crossing them to a pair of 18" subs on each corner of the stage. There's a dbx unit in there too and we used the auto mic calibration to set to our sanctuary. Really the sound is impressive.

I have the active units crossed over to the SRX728 subs
