    Default Coil-Less crossover

Recently, there was a thread about capacitor-less x-overs.

Is there such a thing as a coil-less low pass filter?

In other words, could zobel (cap and resistor across the terminals) without a coil in front of it be tweaked enough to come up with an acceptable low pass slope?

Obviously, depending on the impedance curve of the driver and the target point.

No, that wouldn't do anything to the FR curve.

Thanks Johnny. Pretty much figured it wouldn't, otherwise everybody would do it ;-)

If you need insertion loss, it can be done. Not via a Zobel, but via a series resistor in combination with a parallel cap.

Using a mid/teeter that is several db louder than the woofer allows for the use of an equalizer to just roll off the woofer,.

    Sounds good without that coil!

The EPI line of speaker used woofers designed to roll of smoothly and they only crossed the tweeter. They were pretty successful in the day and my sister has a pair or their 6" two ways that still sound pretty good to me. Follow the link to see a crossover.

That's the only way I'd think about doing it as well.
