OS vs Klipsch - compare please
My cousin would like to know how the Overnight Sensation speakers compare to these Klipsch, in quality etc.. If you can give any details, we'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

Re: OS vs Klipsch - compare please
I would say go for the OSMTM. The OS sounds great- absolutely no complaints for most any music. I wouldnt be surprised though that the Klipsch you linked would play a little louder at stake of clarity than the regular OSTM. The MTM would blow the veneer off that Klipsch.

The OS/OSMTM will rreach 50Hz.
My NanoNeos/ntn will do 40, strongly.
These are all bigger than those Klipsch, but they're also cheaper (if you build them).
There are "flatpacks" available to build the OS, OSMTM, and NanoNeos, if you're short on woodworking tools.

When it comes to sound and comparing speakers, it's all personal choice. I may think speaker A sounds ten times better than Speaker B. You may feel that Speaker B is much better than Speaker A.
So to literally answer your question, build quality and component quality will be better with the OS. I'm also betting the freq response will be flatter on the OS.

Agreed on enjoyment of a loudspeaker being a personal choice.
Kind of disagree on the build quality of the OS, there is nothing special about the drivers used in the OS. Typical OEM-style woofers and tweeters. OS may use slightly better crossover components, though - depends on how one specs out the BOM.
Flat FR may, or may not, play into how enjoyable one finds a design.
Bass extension may, or may not play into how enjoyable one finds a design.
I would really recommend he build the OS and buy the Klipsch. It is the only way he will ever know which one he prefers.

Wonder if that rational would work on my wife......

Why buy one when you can get two at twice the price?

Re: OS vs Klipsch - compare please
I have not heard either set. I would like to add that there are very different design goals on these two speakers. The klipsch are much more efficient. But don't have the bass that the OS are known for. (just going off the specs)
I would go for DIY every time. But that is so I can say I built it.

Re: OS vs Klipsch - compare please
It is satisfying bringing a speaker to life from a flat piece of MDF and having to do the network. Depending on the situation, it isn't always for everyone.
I think a better comparison would be the overnight sensations vs Pioneer by Andrew Jones. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=250-707
I've only heard wonderful things about them. The only downside I can see is lack of sensitivity, but most good amps can put out a little more power at 6ohms too, so that should help out a tad.

Re: OS vs Klipsch - compare please
I got my 3 pair of B652's from P-E with my other items to bring my total to $100 ($25 a pair) and I went to the big store withe a big yellow sign on the side and bought a pair of $495 a pair "famous brand" bookshelf speakers to compare them to. Well the "famous brand" speakers sounded alot better than the stock B652's! They sounded better than my modded B652s. It might be very hard to build as good a 6 1/2" two-way (or not). I was seriously thinking of buying the BR-1 kit, until I started reading this bunch building "budget" speakers that outperformed the BR-1's in many ways. The BR-1's were reviewed vs: the $495 "famous brand" speakers and the BR-1's tromped them every way but dB/W. I sez "Hmmm..." BTW, I returned the $495 speakers later that Sunday, still wrapped.
