    Default Bandpass enclsoure for two Exodus EX-Anarchy 6.5

    I would like to build a bandpass enclosure for my two Exodus EX-Anarchy 6.5. This is my first bandpass enclosure design I am having a hard time figuring out the enclosure sizes. Here is a link to the t/s parameters. I would like for the enclosure to have a good transient response and be able to play ~30-70hz.

    I have two 2" PSP aero ports to use and a 240w Dayton Audio plate amp. I would like to know what size the sealed and ported sections of the enclosure should be and what would be the tuning frequency of the ported section.

    Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated!

    Why do you want to build a bandpass alignment with these drivers?

    Looks like they will do quite well without having to be used in such an alignment.

    If you want to build something for them that's a bit more complex than a sealed or vented alignment, google "Exodus Anarchy Tapped Horn" for some ideas.

    Yes, why a bandpass? The SA240 will roll off both ends electronically. A simple vented box is most likely in order.

    I have to agree with Brian and Chris, Why a bandpass?

    After a few simulations I came up with the following:

    Ported:
    Alignment=QB3 SC4 SBB4
    Vb=807.77 cu. in. 779.73 cu. in. 517.1 cu. in.
    F3=39.47 Hz 39.66 Hz 46.53 Hz
    Fb=42.6 Hz 42.19 Hz 45.8 Hz
    Port Length=8.5 in. 9 in. 12 in.

    Bandpass: s=0.7 no ripple.
    Gain Vb Vf Vr Fl Fh Fb Pl
    0db 581.13 222.53 358.6 45.77 120.78 74.35 10.41
    -1.5 704.25 222.53 481.7 40.33 115.34 68.2 12.65
    -3.0 899.95 222.53 677.4 35.43 110.44 62.55 15.31
    -4.5 1251.8 222.53 1029.2 31.05 106.06 57.38 18.47

    note: volumes (cu.in.) do not include port volume or driver displacement.

    As you can see, to get these down to 30Hz your box is going to have to be much larger than a ported one, the port length is getting out of hand, and gain has to be reduced considerably. At F3=30 Hz you will be down 8db with a max SPL of about 97db.

    I think the QB3 alignment is your best bet.

    I was looking at a bandpass enclosure to get the most output from these drivers. I am realizing that a bandpass alignment is not suitable for these. I have had these drivers now for over a year sitting in my closet and I would like to put them to use.

    I will probably build a ~1.0^3ft enclosure tuned to 40hz. Maybe they will be what I am looking for. If not I might just buy and actual subwoofer driver.

    Thank you for your comments.

    If we are talking about the same woofer, could you please build THIS instead and report back?

    Erich used to have the flat packs for those as well. I think they are still out of stock, but it wouldn't hurt to hit him up as well if you didn't want to do the woodworking for that project.

    Good luck....those are crazy nice drivers. Don't short-change yourself!!

    I can report on those. I built a couple from Erich H's flat packs. I am using them in my office as speaker stands/ subs. Driven with an old Kenwood M1A out of an old Yamaha A/V receiver sub out. very nice sound, I listen to Pandora and radio. Plans are in that AVS link if Erich H is not making any more flat packs.

    I did run across those 25hz horns in my research. Very nice.

    I never knew that flat packs were available. I will have to check in and see if they are still being produced! I can cut wood myself but this would make it REALLY easy

    Thanks for the links and comments!!

    I'll tell you what. If you don't get around to using those drivers, I will buy them off ya.... Let me know via PM. I'd love to see you build those tapped horns though!!
