dc10" woofers any input
Going through my stock of stuff in my shop that I never found a good home for. I have 4 dayton classic 10" woofers. also 4 RS-125 5"
The rs-125 are decent mids, but the woofers???? EH
Any good projects with the 10" classics
I am kinda upset that I bought them as Eric in tech support swore them up and down. I hope I am wrong that they are stinkers
Thanks guys

These designs use that woofer:

I used a pair of those woofers with "leftover" Dayton DC130's and DC28's for my garage speakers. they work well.

What makes you think they would be stinkers? I have 4 I just got to use in 1cuft per driver, two per enclosure under a Full Range driver.

Re: dc10" woofers any input
Placing the woofer close to the floor and near wall placement brings the low-end in nicely on these woofers. In my family room, with the woofers center about 15 inches off the ground and close to the wall the bass was fine on most material. In my garage they are perfect.
Andy: those look really nice. Does dust stick the mid domes?

I first used them in a parallel set up. 2 drivers in one sealed 2cuft box. I tried them with the rs125's again a pair wired at 4 ohm. with the dayton planars. Maybe i should only run 1-mid ( just thinkin ). I tried them running active up and down the spectrum and IMO just never sounded "good" I see the pics of the 3ways posted.. looks nice... I maybe just didn't give them enough effort. I gotta say that when I opened them they were the lightest woofer I ever used. I got stuck in the multiple 8" woofer trap. I appreciate the input guys.. I will keep trying.

Maybe bass isn't an issue with you, but years ago I used the 10" in vented 2-ways that didn't sound "horrible". They'll get into the 30's in 2 vented cf. Bigger is even better. The "Classic" series all have sort of bad cone breakup up around 2k-2.5k. No reason why they couldn't sound decent in a 3-way. As I think has been mentioned, Wayne J. used them in 2 designs. IMO, a very high value driver.

Re: dc10" woofers any input
I plan to use them in pairs crossed somewhere below 350Hz to a full range so mid duty won't be much of an issue. For a woofer to extend up to say 1,500Hz I'd prolly look for something different but would expect higher F3 as well.
If a pair of these 10's per side doesn't float my boat I have the room to replace one of them with a 12. Can you do that, run two different woofers on the same amp? I guess I wouldn't be able to adjust the two to each other but they might be alright. I'll cross that bridge if I need to.
Most recommendations suggest 1cuft sealed per woofer or two in a 2cuft sealed enclosure. They don't list an F3 but this will be for music only so 30Hz is plenty. Will 1cuft per woofer go that low?

Charts show more like low 50's, maybe. Then there's room gain.

Re: dc10" woofers any input
I bought mine as replacements for a cabinet of roughly 1 cubic foot and they sounded terrible, no extension. They need more breathing room.

They look so clean, and so does your shop lol. My tweeters have some dust on them, but not terrible

Re: dc10" woofers any input
Andy, you just inspired me with that chalkboard. I am going to put a whiteboard in my garage, be better than the 9000 scraps of paper I have floating around with dimensions, crossover versions, etc etc...
Also, the big 3-ways look super.

Thanks Johnny, I built that for the kids about 14 years ago. It has worked out well. I have used it for most of the planning of my speaker builds, though chalk is not quite the precision drafting tool desired for "CAD" drawings. A real whiteboard would be a great upgrade.
Drawing it out has helped me get the right number of parts cut, right order, etc.
