Default Messed up a box build, just venting ;)

I am building a ported box for 3 12" subs. Yes, it's car audio. No this is not for me. I messed up on the drawing and had everything cut before I caught it. The drawing I made had the wrong height for the port. Now the sub over the port won't fit. So I extended the top of the box. This should show it better:

However when I cut the hole for the sub, my corrected part was wrong! The top screw would miss my piece I built to handle it. So I just finished gluing a piece of plywood in to catch the screw.

Plywood should handle the screw better than the mdf would have at least. I just can't stand that I messed up twice!

Yuuuup... I've been there, done that.

But give yourself some credit, we all make mistakes. What will probably happen is that you'll fix the issue and nobody will even know it's there unless you point it out to them. Don't sweat it.

I think I'll just resign myself to the fact that I don't have the mental ability to not screw up my builds.

It isn't the measure twice thing...

I'm starting a new build for my first traditional TL. I made a template to "guarantee" that I wouldn't mess up.

I set the first piece on top of the template and glued the second piece to the first piece. All the while looking at the first piece while it was sitting on the template and not realizing it was wrong even while looking at it! grrrr

I didn't catch it until the next day...sigh...

One reason why CAD can be very helpful. Or even having a complete drawing, showing everything fitting together, before you start cutting. I am terrible when it comes to "measure twice cut once" as well. I always make sure to have (at least) a complete hand drawing showing everything fitting together with all the dimensions triple checked before I go near the saw. That seems to help.

Last night I was reconstructing an oak cabinet for a friend and thought I got my measurements right. I did. but I drilled and installed 2 pieces in the wrong side of my line. ******, I "corrected" the mistake. Turns out the pieces of dowels I used are a tiny bit to long. ******, I pulled the dowel from the other end and decided to increase the depth of the hole. Drilled through it and drilled my thumb muscles(abductor Pollicis). Lucky me that it is not too deep. Maybe 1/4 of and inch deep but I am not going to put a measuring stick in there.

    Lesson:
Do not continue working when frustrated.
I get sloppy and careless when doing so.

Yup, when you get in a hurry things only go bad. I completely ruined a few baffles routing holes in a hurry and whatnot. I feel your pain.
