BiPole W3-879S's
A few days ago I started my latest project; a TABAQ BiPole with two Tang Band W3-879S's. I was thinking of a Cyberg's Needle project, but the more I read, the more I liked the TABAQ. Then I read a little more and decided to go with a BiPole arrangement. I built one, very rough, to see if I'd like it. It took only two songs to decide I was going to build the pair.
Now, I'm waiting for the finish to dry. All I need to do is mount the drivers and the bottom plate. I built these with a removable rear baffle so I could experiment with different amounts of stuffing and any thing else that one can play with on a pair of these.
It's been fun, but as always, there are imperfections I wish weren't there. One day I will build a flawless speaker cabinet.
I've attached some pics. I'll post more when I've had a chance to polish up the boxes and get everything mounted.
Anyway, I'm pretty excited to finish them, hopefully tomorrow after work. Depending how these projects turn out, I might bring some to InDIYana to play with, and pick the brains of the gurus...
After that, I have three more speaker projects on the shelf. And then there are the chipamps waiting for me. I love this hobby!

Finished my BiPole W3-879S's
I finished these and am taking them in at the moment. The drivers are new, so they're breaking in and sounding better by the minute. For what they are, I really like them so far. In a normal sized room, roughly 16 X 20 (my dining room is directly off my current listening room), they could benefit from some help with bass, but I suppose that's to be expected of a 3" driver. However, they do have a surprising amount of bass for small drivers. I'm thinking of possibly adding some bass support to them as a "lower unit" that would also serve to bring the drivers up a little closer to listening height.
In the pics I attached, the black baffle is the rear and the stained baffle is the front.
I'm listening to Katy Lied by Steely Dan, which is one of the CDs I like to use to listen to new speakers. The sax solo in Dr. Wu is awesome. Yep, they are definitely breaking in and sounding better. Now I'll just play with distance to/from a wall. Fun Stuff!!!
