This was my first build, and this is my first post. Let's see if the links work and the picture shows up.
I need to thank some people. First, Paul Carmody. He said something on his site about how something this small could probably be built out of hardwood, and I had some small pieces of cherry that I didn't know what to do with. Now I do!
Then, williamrschneider and Soundslike for their build diaries. Also Mikers for the ring terminals, but EVERYBODY's comments here were so helpful.
Then, my wife for letting me disappear into the basement for a while in dribs & drabs. She said "I didn't know they'd look so good." And then, when I plugged them in, she said "You made sound!" She didn't think it was possible.
All of the pix are here. Sorry, I just don't have the energy to upload them all.
They sound great! Wait until she hears the sub I build, I'm thinking walnut with some snazzy splines.
My goals were to use the cherry, learn how to dovetail (these were my first, I found a cheap bandsaw for sale), and nerd out on them. Everything's proportioned using the golden ratio (height to width, depth to make the volume, the dovetails are spaced nerdily too), and the baffles are held on with cabinet screws, I think they're called. Basically hex head 1/4-20 screws with built-in washers.
Lots of jigs and the finish is hand-rubbed tung oil. I have no "shop." I think these are a testament to what you can do with a homemade router table as a bench set on a couple of plastic sawhorses.
Thank you everybody! This was fun. I was looking for a hobby. I think I started these in September and just plugged them in. Not bad for me.

Reason: add pic
As for how to post photos in your thread -- you have photos hosted, just copy and paste the URL for the photo you want to insert here using the "" tags.
very nice. another woodworker turned speaker builder. your wife is cool.

heehee...and negative points for putting the xovers in backwards my first go-round, so the mid bumped into the big inductor. got ahead of myself there on Assembly Day.
thinking a downfiring Cerberus sub is next! feeling a need to point it down because the cats are liable to mess with it.
Those are beautiful dude...great work. This kind of stuff reminds me just how much of a woodworking novice I am. Keep up the good work, you carpenters!!!
Beautiful! Those are great, I love the natural cherry look and the dovetails just add a touch of class and quality. You definitely put the extra work into them to ensure that future expansion/contraction would not be an issue for them. I may copy that model in near future - I have some grenadilla and zebrawood waiting to be transformed into a cabinet.
Definitely something to be proud of. If that was your first build, I can't wait to see what you produce next!
