    Default Any Fix for This?

I wouldnt normally come to tech-talk for a car audio related issue, but I feel like the guys on here are quite a bit more knowledgable/resourceful on this issue.

I purchased a set of car audio speakers and one woofer arrived damaged. It has an integrated dust-cap/phase plug of the sorts, which got crushed somehow. The woofer plays fine currently, but my concern is that the crack around the base of the dust cap will eventually seperate from the cone. I was thinking about removing the damaged dustcap and replacing it with one of the poly dust caps on PE.

    Couple questions:

    1. Think theres any audible distortion or buzzing caused by the cracked dustcap?

    2. How would changing from a pointed dustcap to a more traditional dome dustcap change the performance of a driver?

    3. Should I do it, or just leave well-enough alone and reinforce the cracked area with superglue or epoxy or other adhesive?

    Thanks in advance

Default Re: Any Fix for This?

I fixed a 15" audiobahn sub, had a broken plastic dust cap. I guy that sold me the dust cap said that it wouldn't change the parameters. So that being said I just bought a cap and used super glue and bam. It worked good for the mix. I left it dry for 24 hrs and it was as good as it was going to get. I couldnt hear any diffference and I was putting it to the test by bumping it pretty hard.

So just cut the old one out with a scalpal. I would maybe research alittle on replacing a dustcap if never hard done its not to hard but it helps.

I love Diy audio, because its just me and my ideas and my shop. I can make and mold my ideas and put them to play, its an amazing thing to be able to do!!
