Feedback, opinions and thoughts
Hi all,
Please comment on the system in-being described in this link and the pictures below. If anyone has tried something remotely similar, all feedback is wellcome.

Re: Feedback, opinions and thoughts
Out of curiosity is there a reason behind the recessing? As opposed to a flat baffle covered with the same felt?
The felt should sufficiently dampen high frequency, but I would be concerned that there would be issues are lower frequencies with the drivers in that cavity.

Hi,
the "felt-and-cavity" design is an attempt to make the speaker more narrow-radiating, as was the thought in the original AR-MGC sidesystems, not to blur the direct sound from the main system and the delayed (20ms) side-beaming system . If you see the SPL-curve for the drivers (in the folder) strange things happen, but I think that this may be fixed with DSP.

Do you mean the linearity in general ( the valley above 600Hz ) or particular spots ( the ripples between 800 - 2Khz )?

Re: Feedback, opinions and thoughts
Hi,
I mean all the irregularities in the responses from the drivers. I know that, in general, is isnīt a very good idea to install the drivers the way that I have done, in a cavity but this is/was the first attempt to focus the output in a more narrow beam than would be the case in normal mounting.
As perhaps some of you have read in my previous posts on other projects, I tend to aim for learning new stuff in my projects. And one of the topics in this would be to design a speaker with a deliberately "beamy" response, to meet the design goals for the cloning of AR-MGC, a somewhat extreme system.
If this will not work out as planned, well the worst thing will be that I have bought a lot of nice units (drivers, amps, DCX a. o. ) and this can be readily used elsewhere in future projects.
BUT I seldome give up whitout a real fight and will keep trying for a long time...(and ask you for advice and feedback)
Best regards//lasse

Re: Feedback, opinions and thoughts
Do you have flat baffle measurements of the same drivers?

Yes, but only at 10 deg and from my main system, which has the same mid and tweeter.
I would have liked to been able to present the polar plots from this mounting but I cannot. But the comparason with the data-sheet indicate a "better" directivity of abt 3-7 Db at a mix of 30 and 60 degrees.
I attach the 10 deg plots from the main speakers.
