Will tall mounting screws roughen my response curve...

My size 8-32 black cast frame hex screws paired with washers (because screws are too small) stick up almost a 1/4" above frame (8" full range dayton ps-220). There's six screws for this speaker. They look ok, but I was concerned about roughening up the frequency curve seeing that these protruding elements could antagonize the effects of my flush mount.

And now, after the fact, I see cheap wood screws with the plain old philips round heads are almost completely flush with the frame. I was trying to avoid
would screws due to those being prone to stripping the wood

Any advise or insight.

Should I worry about 1/4" protrusions?

Should make no difference at all. The size of the screw would limit its affect to very high frequencies and your driver will have very little output at 90 degrees anywhere close to these frequencies - so, it shouldn't affect you.
