SLS vs HDS
Does any one know how this SLS compares to the 8" Nomex HDS, as far as distortion and flat response? Or any thing else that I should know?

Thanks.

Re: SLS vs HDS
The SLS is a good speaker, but the HDS Nomex is an outstanding speaker. The HDS has lower distortion, flatter FR and is easier to build a cross-over for. There isn't that much difference in price, either. We need for the "smart guys" to work up a design, but the new Dayton Designer Series 8" woofer could be a less expensive option, as a 3-way. The Peerless HDS Nomex paired with a Dayton RS28F-4 and the right cross-over could be built as a WT I think. As LouC says "I never met a Peerless Nomex I didn't like." I have a pair of Dayton Classic 6 1/2"s and got a pair of Peerless HDS 6 1/2 Nomex's. I put both in my test box, and the difference is mind-blowing. I'll warn you, if you start buying "premium" drivers, your ears may make your wallet suffer!

Re: SLS vs HDS
I bought some 8" SLS's here at PE and sent them back. T/S were not remotely as advertised. Might be good for some purpose, but not the same one implied by the factory specs. Could have been faulty.
Sure wish PE would run a few of each batch through WT3 and see what they are selling.

Re: SLS vs HDS
I did a build with some 830883's a while back. Online I found 2 different sets of maufacturers data which were not close to each other and another set of independently tested data that was different again (Zaph's?). I wonder if the manufacturing process has changes over the years.

Re: SLS vs HDS
The HDS changed a bit when Tymphany took over. I've seen both, the cone material is slightly different, and the voice coil former is a bit longer on the Tymphany version.
As has been stated, the SDS is a fine driver, the HDS is an excellent driver. That should be fairly obvious though.

SLS, not SDS.
