Default Thoughts on Paul's Classix II?

Hiya, I feel like cranking out another pair of speakers, despite already having more than I can even put to use... (dammit, stupid addictive hobby ).

I'm a big fan of Paul's designs having made the Sensations in both TM and MTM forms (the carbon fibre veneer ones if you remember).

I was just wondering if anyone had built/listened to the Classix II and had some thoughts about them. Also more specifically, I'm wondering how they compare to OS MTMs. I think I might toss up between another pair of those (to ultimately expand what I've got to 5.1) or the Classix II.

I suppose I'm kinda fishing for a reply from Paul here, I'll probably email him if he doesn't reply here. But as always it would be super helpful to pick the minds of everyone else. Cheers.

I'm sure they'll sound great since it's a Carmody design! My question would be, why make another set of bookshelves? Why not go with one of his bigger projects like the Tarkus?

Yeah I guess that's a valid point! Personally I'm not a fan of larger floor-standing speakers, mainly for practical reasons. I'll probably get there eventually, but my humble student living doesn't really accomodate them atm
(and the angles on the Tarkus might be a bit beyond me too... )

I'm slowly (very slowly) working on a pair of Classix II's myself, instead of BR-1's. Just seemed like a good idea at the time. I could kick myself for being too slow on ordering the Peerless 831375 buy-outs for some Gila Monster II's. So a pair of Veepeers are in my future too. Maybe we can convince Paul to take a pair of DA160-8's, some Dayton mid-domes, and a tweeter and build a large "bookshelf" three-way like the old Advents or JBL's. If he want's to build an 8" 3-way, I'm up for that too.

I built a pair of Classix II recently and have been enjoying them very much. They are very musical and the bass is marvelous. Taking two rather inauspicious drivers and some real talent Paul has created a silk purse so to speak. They sound better to my ears than many speakers costing over $1,000. Make sure to get them up on stands so the tweets level with your "seated" ears and give them some breathing room off the back wall. Highly, highly recommended.

Thumbs up Re: Thoughts on Paul's Classix II?

Built a pair early this spring, and I am enjoying them more than any other speaker I own(approx. 24pair).
They reproduce a very broad spectrum of sound. My wife described them as sounding very full.
They are a bit sensitive to room size/type and placement, but absolutley no complaints. Paul hit one out of
    park with this design.

**cough** Paul's 'Dayton Classic Revival' fits your request almost to a T! **cough**

I'm sure you can adapt the depth and height to your means for a stand mount...

Very happy with them and have since built an additional pair.

Enjoying them so much that I haven't wanted to take them apart and finish them

Running 4 of them with the Emotiva Mini X and they sound great.

just finished my pair of classix II last week and are breaking them in. You won't find a speaker at its price point that can get as low in only 15L. They are the best bookshelf speakers I have heard for rock and blues. You won't be disappointed..
