Looking for info on a few buyouts to match up with a ribbon I have

I have this airborne RT-4101 ribbon tweeter:

Some one at InDIYana told me that it was only good to ~8Khz. Solen's site shows 4Khz. I have never used a ribbon tweeter but I have heard that they don't like to be tested without a HP filter. If any one can give me an idea as to a safe way to check the tweeter out with my omnimic that would be great.

The main reason for this post is to figure out if I could use one or several of the buyouts to match up with these ribbons. I found two that looked good, I was mainly looking for drivers that could go up to 8Khz, and are cheap, fwiw.

This is the one I am most interested in, although I don't know if it is any good, I thought of using several per side to make sure that they could keep up with the tweeter. This has other issues, but I don't know how bad it would be. If any one has used this little driver please let me know what you thought of it.

I don't know how bad this would beam or what its fr is. Any info would be helpful.

I understand that I will still need a woofer for these. If there are any cheap suggestions - that won't require a huge box - please let me know. (I thought of two of these per side: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=299-289)

For cheap and good up to 8k, I don't think you can do better
than the Vifa TC9FD - use a pair per side if you need the sensitivity:

+1 to Don's suggestion. I bought 4 of them just to play with and boy do they sound pretty sweet. measure reasonably well too.

+1.... The Vifa sounds quite good, and is pretty easy to work with.

Be advised the openness of the rear cavity, and I was the one who said the output got better above 8kHz. It's either a rising response, or not good down low.

FWIW- that is about how I expected it to measure just doing a sweep on the WT2. Rising in about 6-8kHz, and a little soft on top-end.

This is a planar, not a true ribbon, so you can measure Z on a WT3 or such just fine, and it should be fairly resistive. Remember to chamber the planars to prevent any pressure issues on the membrane, due to its open-back qualities. I would recommend an LR4 slope acoustic, and likely 12dB electrical will get you there. If you should need to pad the output of the planar, using a 1-2uF cap across the series resistor will allow the top-end to flatten out.

It is dipole. I would like to extend the baffle above the box and leave it that way. I thought about doing the same with the mid also. I will try to rear mount both drivers and use a shallow wave guide. I can have the baffle cnc routered.

The idea is to play with something different, with almost no cost. I am up for any ideas or advice.

It's actually more of an aperiodic enclosure, as the backwave is attenuated, and there are openings with damping in front of them.

I wouldn't call it dipole.

Ok, so does that mean that I can't leave the back open? or that it doesn't matter. (as long as it is not in an enclosure with another driver of course)

You can leave the back open, but I don't think it'll be of much benefit in terms of output or dipolar-response. May matter, may not. (Definitely on the last parenthetic sentence.)
