"The user guide explicitly shows direct PC connection via the 485 and says nothing about it "NOT" being compatible. Nor does it define requirements or limitations."
If you understood exactly what you were reading (here or in the manual) you wouldn't be mouthing off and repeatedly embarrassing yourself.
You are wrong. I read the manual many times before coming on this forum. "Before you wrongly accused me of not cracking it open."
You know you are wrong so just admit it jinjuku. YOU ENTERED AND TROLLED THIS THREAD WITH A COMPLETELY FALSE ACCUSATION/JAB.
ADDITIONALLY: My question on the DCX is valid exactly because I do comprehend the manual and understand what it says and what it does NOT say.
Look at the manual more carefully to understand what it is saying and what it is not saying. Then read this again because you are obviously not getting it.
"The user guide explicitly shows direct PC connection via the 485 and says nothing about it "NOT" being compatible. Nor does it define requirements or limitations."
This just flew right over the short little jinjuku trolls attention span, but if you keep trying you may begin to understand.
Until then, stay out of this forum until you are ready to come clean.
# 1: .....
# 2: How many computers are shipping now days with a 485 serial interface?
# 3: How many USB to 485 bridges/dongles are out there vs USB to 232?
Get a USB to 232 dongle and be done with it. Even if you get a 485 converter it will be 9 pin d-sub and not RJ 45. In summary you are making this way harder on yourself than you need. You have been told no fewer than 3 times to connect via 232.

"Get a USB to 232 dongle and be done with it."
This is exactly what I will be doing.
Next time leave the unprovoked/innacurate/condescending jabs out.

New hardware. The built in crossover of a Denon 4311 receiver is now being given this function. ... and Audessy equalizes everything but the bass. So the DCX is still needed.
I know I sound like a broken record, but HOW is this a pro sound issue if a "consumer grade" audio receiver is in the signal chain.
BTW: Hydra, it's YOUR lack of the most basic skills & knowledge (or how to gain knowledge) that made you look like a jerk; not comments from others.
As a matter of fact, the member that gave you the solution was the member you were the most 'personally' insulting toward.
Here's your biggest issue: YOU bought the wrong piece of gear for the job and you're transferring your buyers' remorse to the folks who are sincerely trying to help you.
When you have approx. .0005% of the knowledge, skills and experience of Bill F., among others, c'mon back to the PRO side of the forum ONLY when it's a PRO AUDIO discussion.

Because the signal source is irrelevant to the question and operation of the DCX.

False. Your statement here makes you look like a Jerk. A "lack of the most basic skills & knowledge" isn't what makes a jerk. Throwing out unprovoked jabs is what makes a person a jerk.

Who was the first to throw out an insult or jab in this thread?... Answer this honestly.... (but I know you won't)

No it is not. The DCX is very well suited to equalization and filtering.
When you have approx. .0005% of the knowledge, skills and experience of Bill F., among others, c'mon back to the PRO side of the forum ONLY when it's a PRO AUDIO discussion.
The Behringer DCX2496 Ultradrive Pro Digital Crossover is a pro piece is equipment. Is it not?
This is the appropriate forum for questions on the DCX2496. Take your own advice and follow your own rule of " c'mon back to the PRO side of the forum ONLY when it's a PRO AUDIO discussion." ....before publicly sticking your foot in your mouth.

"The Behringer DCX2496 Ultradrive Pro Digital Crossover is a pro piece is equipment. Is it not?"
No, it isn't...in anyone's book except the Behringer Marketing Division.
Pro gear is dbx, TC Electronic & Rane etc, even Peavey. And those are the entry level brands!!!!! Behringer is not rider approved and has a horrible track record for reliability.
Plus, it's the "application" that determines the "pro" aspect. If it's used in the home, it's not pro.
I think you would have received warmer reception if you'd posted on the consumer side of the forum. That and if you actually understood system layout and were more cordial to the folks that tried to help you.
I'm not going to vivisect the rest of your post. Only "guilty minds" do that.
Take a Valium or some herbal tea & chill.

Yeah, not only you made yourself like a jerk you are showing everyone you a snob too. Keep your nose up high, that make you look good.

Pro audio equipment questions belong in the pro audio forum thank you.
That and if you actually understood system layout and were more cordial to the folks that tried to help you.
System layout isn't related to the DCX question. You are just throwing anything against the wall with the hope somethign will stick. Stop making yourself look like a fool.
I'm not going to vivisect the rest of your post. Only "guilty minds" do that.
Why? What are you afraid of? ...Only a guilty mind would avoid being exposed for their guilt.

I'm not the one who came in with an attitude but if you must dish it out to others, you should expect that you might get it smashed back in your face.
