    Default Very OT: ZO6

I got to drive a 2009 ZO6 Corvette today. VERY impressive car! Had good power but the great handling and comfortable ride was what really impressed me. Too bad I could never afford one

I've not driven a Z06, but drive the C6 abcs that alone was a torque monster. The only thing I diont life about the vettes is the interior. I've read the traction in the rain is terrible also, but that wouldn't stop me from owning a Z06 if I could. It was THE performance bargain for a while at just $70k msrp until msrp shot up to $100k this year.

Vette's have always been my dream car...from the first time I saw my uncle's 63 Hard Top convertible in my grandma's barn. I was probably 7. It snowballed from there. I have drooled over 4 different body styles (53-62 was not my favorite...)
I managed a small GM bodyshop for a while, and at that time, we used to sponsor/judge a local car show, and my General Manager had an 07 convertible (4spd automatic ) for his demo. He let me take it to the show (with the dealership name on signage, of course). The day was bright and hot, perfect for a convertible. I soaked up every second of it, and regretted having to take it back...let alone having to drive just over the speed limit.
I have never driven anything before, or since, that screamed performance, and was as tight and quiet...even for an automatic with a ragtop. And I had had a chance at most of the performance cars that came in. Monsoon's, Camaro SS's, (one with a Paxton and suspension upgrades) Caddie's...GTP's, Bonnevile's (turbo and supercharged)...
    If I can't afford it...I don't need it

I've not driven the Z06, but I was even luckier when one of my customers offered a test drive in a 2011 ZR1. I had bailed him out on short notice to get ready for a big event. That car was unbelievably docile at at part throttle, but when you hammered it, the beast was unleashed. I think he said it was 620 HP, but I know he said it was $111,000

I first fell in love with the C4 vette...still like it but that was not a reliable MY. I know someone at work with an excellent condition black C4 vert (though I wouldn't get a vert).
I recently saw some kid probably in his late 20s at the gas station I was filling up at also with a beautiful white ZR1. He was opposite the pump from me with my amazing awesome honda Fit. Damn I'm in the wrong line of work.it's times like those when I get a bit depressed thinking about how long I've worked but still financially just making it.

They're ok in the rain with the right tires. The runflats that came on the C5 were awful...loud, harsh ride with poor traction.

    Coupes can be fun too.

Yep that is a nice car for sure. And that is really the harshest handling vette model in the lineup. Z06 has 500+ ponies not too far from a legit race car. I never thought I could afford a corvette although I always wanted one as well. Several years ago we saw a yellow C6 for sale at a dealership for almost half price of the original.sticker, and we took the plunge. You could probably find a used one for 38to40k if you look. We paid less than a new Camry or Accord for ours. It got 31.5 mpg highway and always made me smile. Its gone now, but I have fond memories.

My brother just shoved an LS engine from a Z06 into a 1992 2door Chevy Tahoe. Then put one of those new eaton superchargers on top. He wound up shredding the drive shaft. Its almost buttoned up and ready to run again. I love the way those LS engines spin up.

Yes, the Z06 is a very nice car. Very underrated in other parts of the world. I got to drive one a few times.
The Prez of my company asked me to go to the dealer and pick up the director of operations- her company car was getting repaired. I said "prez" (wont use his name) my truck is kinda filthy right now, I would be embarrased.
He said "here Ryan, Take my vette" (08 Z06) Just remember that once you think your foot is on the floor, press a little harder.

A few sideroads later, the smoke was building up from a 1st-3rd no-traction launch.
Next thing I see..... 4 cops standing in the middle of the road pointing at me.
I pulled over, the female cop said some choice words to me...
I retaliated by saying "4 cops for a road construction site, and not one sign that work is being done"

They all looked at eachother in shame, told me to have a good day.

They obviously knew the $70k car was not mine.

My son-in-law does also. He dropped one into a 1960 Chevy station wagon with a big turbocharger/intercooler combo. It has full air ride and is sick.

Great minds think a like. I'll be getting one in about a year as my "family car" since my 03 Mustang GT convertible has been deemed unfit for the family by the wife.

I have run against some c5 and c6 Z06s and they are hard to beat on a fairly open autocross course in the hands of a good driver. My E36 328is has H&R sports springs, Koni adjustables, Eibach bars and handles about as well with the exception that I can't fit NEAR the rubber under mine, but I do get a back seat (of sorts) and a trunk to carry cameras and gear in. My "if Chip Foose drops in" used to be dropping an LS6 in my car - it's lighter and would drop the center of gravity about 3 inches in the front and move it back as well. It is a fairly well done conversion with kits out there already to bolt up. A 3.38 LSD, roll the fenders a bit, 275s all around and watch the ricers disappear to the rear, hehehe.

Couple of shots of an old friends 06 Z06 as he was mocking up the hand built 3 1/2 inch stainless exhaust system he was fabricating. I've had a number of opportunities to drive this car and it makes my jaw drop each time. He just had it dyno'd with that exhaust system and some minor intake mods and it's 530Hp at the rear wheels. He let my son drive it and I went along with his girl friend sitting on my lap, if you really want the sensation of how something accelerates have someone sit on your lap. 100lbs almost doubles.

My experience with the Vette was completely opposite. All tho I have not driven later LS generations. Drove a couple of early 80th Vettes and found them horrid in every respect. Uncomfartable ride. Handling like a duck on the ice. Forget about rainy day, just take your other car out. Fiberglass panels rattling. Badly done interior with cheap plastic parts. Also owned a 93 Firebird with LT-1 and dreded Optispark. That car spend more time in the garage then on the road.
So, now I am a bit sceptical about GM's top performers.
    But.
It does look like GM was able to come up with a much nicer looking and aperently way better handling on the street, cars. New Vettes certenly look inpressive and pull nice numbers.
Oh, Mike, I don't see your mug on the car. Are you just building and have a pro driver race it or it's just the way the shot is taken?

LS generation? LS is a engine series... Early 80th Vettes? Early 80's maybe? When did you drive them and what condition were they in? Any 25 year old car that hasnt been a garage queen its whole life will at some point in time need maintenance.

You're skeptical about GM's top performers based on a 1993 model and some early 80 models? Really? You do have a calendar somewhere and realize that it's almost 20 years later?

When I first read your post I was going to do chalk it up to trolls being trolls, but now I'm not sure.

Even when new, the early 80's C3/C4 handled pretty badly.
