Thread: Planer/Jointer

  1. #1

    Default Planer/Jointer

My dad was doing some work on a house that's for sale. The guy who lives there was selling off some woodworking tools. We ended up buying a "like new" Shop Smith" 4" Jointer and 12"x4" Planer for $300. I haven't seen them yet but he estimates them to be late 80's models. Anyone have input on these? They were used lightly on home DIY stuff, nothing other 2" was ran through the Planer.

They look like a hobbist tools. Treat them as such. Don't try to take off too much and you should be ok.
$300 for both is a good price if they work well.
Check the knifes. Most of the time machines as these come with the junk knifes and may be later a nice SS german made knifes would make a good upgrade.
