hi im Lowell. initials are RLS and thats where the aRLiS come from. several years ago i needed to relace the 6.5 subwoofer driver in n my htib and found PE. had some very nice componets and speakers that i had bought while stationed in japan (dependent husband) but were 20+ years old so the adventure began.
have built two sets of speakers of other designers. overnite sensation and a Dr D'appalito mtm with da and vifa drivers. oh, plus the recession buster 1 kits. i have now designed and built 2 2-way mt and two 3-way speakers. have three more waiting in the wings.
drive a truck around the midwest and get by PE often (so hard to just drive on by). married to karen for 19 years now. she is very sapportive of my hobbies which include woodworking, speaker building and photography. six kids, hers and mine. four grandkids, so far. youngest in the pic. have always had dogs but now enjoying a cat that acts like a dog.
if not for the software and tools and you guys, i would have no chance of doing any of this. no engineering degree. i doubt i could even pass a current
    ged test.
will be 55 on the 5th of june. lots of pictures of my stuff in the link below.

That's him. His speaks are the stand-mounts. The line arrays behind them are Roman's (r-carpenter).

Name is Bryan, 54 married with a 12yr old son Isaac. Live in Nags Head, NC. I have been listening to hifi all my life I think. Built my first dynakit at 16, had a lot of gear over the years. My wife and I just love to listen to music. Found a new friend, Biff, on TT.

I also race my sailboat, a SanJuan 34 sloop. That's me at the helm with my mates Chuck on the left and Barry to the right. Leaving next Fri for the first big regatta of the year. My overnight sensations and Dayton Classic sub rocks out my boat! Best sound in the marina.

This is a great idea putting names & faces together. I'm Steve from Irving, TX. Have been here for a few years but started in car audio where I was fortunate enough to win a national event. I lost interest when the industry started pushing SPL instead of SQ, so shifted my efforts to the home arena. This is me & my fantastic wife of 35 years who pretty much tolerates my efforts without question. She's in the process of redecorating the family room in browns & reds. She saw a pic of the Jamo R909 open baffle design in red that I had been thinking about cloning & said "Those would look good next to the flat screen." Yea - I got a keeper!

My name is really Tony Nelson and am 23 years old. Currently, I am working towards my electrical engineering degree, and should graduate in the fall. I have been around here for 3 years now. PETT has been a real friendly place, with a wealth of knowledge and support given out by its members. It's nice to put some faces to familiar names. Hopefully, I will get to meet some of the Arizona crowd in the fall, as I was unable to all this last year.

Here is a picture of me with two of my brothers (5 of us total) and my niece. I am the guy on the right.

This is the current project I am working on. Building a second story addition on my parents house.

This has evolved into a pretty cool thread. Glad to see many of us are animal lovers and have hobbies that transcend building speakers.

I forgot the general bio on my post, so here goes...

I will be 37 tomorrow (happy birthday, Arlis ). I enjoy running, lifting weights once in awhile and I still practice the occasional karate kata although I consider myself "retired" from actively training. I reached 2nd Dan in Okinawan karate (took almost eleven years) and then switched to a Japanese style where I reached 1st Dan before my reckless 20's caught up with me and I could not justify further damaging my shoulders and knees. That was three or four years ago - I now understand why athletes retire at my age! Not that I am an elite athlete by any stretch but... I still teach a couple of the kids I was bringing up through the ranks when my instructor retired to Texas, but it is strictly for fun as I do not test them nor did I achieve the 3rd Dan my former parent org requires to promote to black belt. We just hang out, I show them kata and we practice "tuite", which is the short-range, stand up grappling part of Okinawan karate. We also mitt up and do some sparring sometimes. Usually we end up getting into the beer and talk about the old days

I like to cook, and pride myself on that hobby.

I was raised in a household full of music and a family full of musicians. The best thing I have done musically is listen to it. I used to play guitar, but I have damaged my hands to badly due to my various martial art and other types of activities that I can no longer work the frets. I figure I could adapt a Jeff Healy style (my mothers lineage is of the Healys, incidentally) or pursue other hobbies with an equal passion. I do not miss out either way.

I am about 3/4 Irish give or take, and I like to say about my 20's that I "drank my way in and punched my way out". See above paragraph about the consequences of damaging your hands Not to indulge in an ethnic stereotype, but...

PETT has been an amazing experience for me, and I consider this to be the over-all best forum for newbies who possess a demonstrated willingness to learn. Those that do, stick around and become part of the family.

Good to see all of you, and learn some of your stories. Even better to know that many of us have interests beyond building some boxes to listen to music on!

Google images brings up this picture of me. It's accurate enough for these purposes. It was taken in my classroom at some point in the last 2 years, but I don't really remember... I was probably in the middle of helping 12 different kids with questions and someone walked in with a camera and said, "Smile, this is going on the website."

I'm 33 years old, and have been on this board since 2006. It's a wonderful community of genuinely kind a very intelligent people. I have been into DIY audio my whole life, but I pretty much sucked at it until I found this place. My childhood and teens, I spent a lot of time cannibalizing pro audio equipment, sometimes trying to improve it, often times making it worse. I tried several times to learn speaker design and construction from books in the library and "experimentation" but I couldn't make anything worth listening to until I discovered DIY sites on the internet like Wayne J's and Curt C's, and tried some of their designs; talk about an epiphany!

Thanks John. It's an unrestored original, 132,000 miles. My mom bought it in 1960 brand new. It was her first new car ever. I learned how to drive in that car and how to parallel park. My father-in-law George has it right now, giving it a little TLC and cleaning out the gas tank. About 15 years ago I did the interior in the stock 2-tone turquiose/white, along with a new dash pad. Since I don't have the physical ability and strength anymore, George is helping me out. He's ran a custom/hot-rod shop near Portland for over 40 years, so he knows his stuff. I should have it back in a month or so. I'll put up some pix.

With our style of Aikido (a mix of shin shin toitsu, aikiki, and PenaRyu "combat"), a first degree black is about a 2-3 degree in a "traditional" school. 3rd is considered master. My instructor is a 7th. Also hold 2nd degree in tae kwon do and have a bit of training in Japanese jujitsu (not MMA style stuff!).

Bio 43 years old, married with 3 kids. They are my biggest "hobby" in life and what I would prefer to be doing over anything else. Installed my first car system 30 years ago. Had my own car audio shop for awhile, but life happened, so let it go. Got out of it for awhile and started leaning more toward the home side. Built a few sets now an trying to get better with each set. Finishing them seems to be the bane! Experimenting, more learning, and relying on the guys here to help me get it right!

Missed it Johnny. Mines the 6th. I will in fact be 66 on 06/06. Retirement is foremost in my forebrain. It's about time to throw in the towel. I'm really looking forward to spend some time with my audio stuff. I've been at this a long time. Trained on tube electronics in the Air Force and I've been at it since. I tend not to get to fancy with boxes. If you put in to much effort it's hard to tear them up and try something else. I did a lot of my speaker design with a Heath real time analyzer. Worked pretty well, but certainly not Omnimic and PCD.

I pretty much worked in a vacuum and it's a revalation to find all you guys on PETT. Looking forward to Iowa and hope to meet some of you. I'll be very interested in your work. I have no idea how good my speakers really are. I mostly do active, although I want to see what I can do with PCD.

I saw many of you guys put up some shots of your furry pals also, and since these guys are a big part of my life and I have no children, here they are.

Tonka the 20lb wonder, 11 years old:

And Gibson, 4 years old, who I adopted a year and a half ago January:

And the both of them not wrestling:

I loved seeing the shots of everyone's little buddies and I know my cats empathize with Clyde. It's great to have them lounging in my lap while I listen to music. They seem to know when a listening session is on, being more persistent about jumping up to lay on my lap. Great to see all your mugs, kids and pets!
