Full Sheet Sander
Just built this, check it out.

Re: Full Sheet Sander
Do you think attaching a palm sander would work?
-
Re: Full Sheet Sander
Probably so. I'm trying to use the most ergonomic handle I can.
This one doesn't stick on when I use dry 400 grit, I don't know if it will when wet, using a finer grit.
I think the handle I'd like most, is something like what's on non-powered hand planers.

Re: Full Sheet Sander
Wow! That's pretty cool, but what exactly do you need a full sheet for?

Not to worry, that MDF won't last too long when wet anyway.

Re: Full Sheet Sander
Nice idea! That should be reall useful when sanding larger boxes. I think I might have to build one myself.
Just guessing here, but wet sanding would be to level a finish in which case the MDF should not be getting wet.

Re: Full Sheet Sander
How do you figure the MDF of the "sander" won't be wet? The sandpaper/surface is wet.

You may burn out the motor prematurely.

Re: Full Sheet Sander
Neat idea!
One add would be to start with a cheap plastic cutting board, so wet sanding won't destroy the tool.
Have fun,

The tool it's self doesn't need to made of MDF. I would use Starboard or exterior plywood.

Re: Full Sheet Sander
EPIC!
I love simple solutions like this

Re: Full Sheet Sander
I made one from a small metal trowel and a cut down bamboo cutting board. I cut the cutting board down to size for a full sheet and put a small bevel on the edges. I drilled holes in the four corners of the trowel and screwed it to the cutting board. I just spray a little contact cement on the back of the sand paper and sand away. I use it to flatten out the sides and edges of boxes.

Re: Full Sheet Sander
Does the contact cement make the surface not-level, at all? (I've never used it.)

Re: Full Sheet Sander
Good point.
I'm sure there are other materials that can be used, as has now been suggested.
Or, it would be a lot more work - but the MDF could be primed and then sanded.

Just throwing this out there, but what about attaching it to an orbital buffer motor? If I'm not mistaken; they both produce close to the same orbital patterns.
Thought the pattern may be a bit larger with the buffer motor, but that full sheet covers a lot of area.

Re: Full Sheet Sander
I wish someone would try that!

Re: Full Sheet Sander
I'd be tempted to try this with a pneumatic DA before a buffer. I use 1/2 sheets for rough sanding and leveling. Never tried full sheets. Clever Idea

Re: Full Sheet Sander
Please do..
Maybe it will even spin slow enough that we can power sand to a high grit? ( I assume this is why many people hand sand. )
