New RS180 MTMs born!

Hey all,
just finished a pair of RS-180 mtms based on the recent JeffB version and wanted to share. i was having a bit of trouble with the x-over, but it seems it was my SPL meter malfunctioning. the boxes were made using some birch ply i had in my garage that i bought for like $20 a while back. wanted a darker red, so i put on some mahogony stain, then some cabernet and wiped on a couple coats of Poly. there is some blotching and other issues with the wood, but overall i'm happy with the results. the x-overs are in the bases for easy access. love the sound of the RS-180s. the tweets are usher 9950.

Would recommend at least a 1/2" roundover (3/4" if you can) or 45 degree chamfer on the front baffle though.

Did you talk to Jeff about substituting the RS28 for the Usher 9950? I don't think it's a drop-in replacement, so you'll probably be better off with some component changes.

might try a roundover, we'll see. that would reduce diffraction effects, correct?

tweezers, well, that's a proprietary trade secret.... actually had to use them to pull out some debris left from staining

yes, i knew the tweet was not a plop-in, that's where the malfunctioning SPL meter was discovered. i changed that part of the crossover and got a nice sound. luckily i had all the parts on hand or that.

like them a lot. thanks for the help, inspiration and kind words from the PE members!

now i need to build my second BFM table tuba, this time it'll be a low-profile version.

Scott, nice looking build you have there. One thing that caught my eye was the division between the front baffle and the sides, Ive always been a fan of that. R.K.

that actually came about by necessity... the sides of one box were ever so slightly warped, both the same way so when i set the baffle on, it didn't look so good. so i just glued on a 1/4 inch thick layer 1/8 inch inside all dimensions with the intent of painting it flat black. worked out pretty well. that's also what i did on the base so it looks like the cab is 'floating' on it. pretty funny how we with poor wood working skills come up with 'fixes'
