    Default 17% off at shoponkyo

Not sure where to put this but www.shoponkyo.com has a fathers day special for club members. You get 17% off refurbished items plus new members get an additional 10%. I just picked up a TX NR-709 for $346!

There are some great deals to be had there! I had kind of forgotten about that site since purchasing a receiver from them for my daughter several years ago.

Even with 17%, some prices were still lower at Amazon.... Just a FYI.

I did a search and did not see anything cheaper. Do you have a link?

They did not have the TX NR-709 available, so I went for the TX NR-809.

Yes they did give me 17% off, but the new member discount is $10, not 10%. Then they wanted to charge me tax in the amount of + $49 (which may be warranted if they have an office in my state). If I order this receiver from Accessories For Less (AFL), I don't pay tax.

On top of that their extended warranty is a rip-off. Their website states that the extended warranty (only one available) extends the original manufacturer's warranty by 2 years. However if you read the fine print of the contract, you will find out that this 2 year contract starts on the day you purchase it, effectively giving you only one additional year of warranty. That one additional year will cost you $65! I consider this at least dishonest, unethical and maybe fraudulent advertising!

1 year of extended warranty from AFL (2 years total) will cost you $30, 3 years total $45 and 5 years total $70.

There is no shipping cost with Shop Onkyo while AFL charges $32 to my location.

Bottom line: You end up paying + $32 more at Shop Onkyo than at AFL and you are dealing with a less than truthful company. Additionally, AFL has various extended warranty options while Shop Onkyo only has one.

So AFL it is for me.
