Old Nikko stereo - should I keep it or sell it?
Hi guys, ok so long ago I purchased a Nikko stereo (used but very clean) because i always liked the look of them when I was growing up, but I never ended up using it because I got some better gear such as Soundcraftsmen amp and pre and then my Threshold amp so it sat around. Now I look at it and think it is cool and retro and dont want to sell it but I dont even use it so its just sitting there collecting dust so I think maybe I should. I dont know. Just thinking about what to do with it. I dont think brand new they were anything to write home about but mind you I have not hooked it up to actually listen ... at least not anytime lately.
So lets say you could get $400 or $500 in the used market for the whole thing, would you sell it or would you just keep it for its retro-ness?

Nikko equipment is very good, but in my opinion, disproportionately expensive. You could get a nice integrated amp for $500 that replaces the whole lot and have enough left over for a plunge router.

Nikko gear is actually relatively underpriced on the vintage market. The amps and preamps are well built and perform well.
I have a Nikko amp and a couple of preamps that perform every bit as well as their contemporaries.
With that said, if the OP can get $400 for that stack, take the money and run.
Even if I used them every day, I'd take that deal.

...that is one sexy stack. Dayum, if I were not tapped full of electronics at the moment...
I really love the look of 80's electronics and speakers.

Take the $500 and pay ahead on your mortgage this year... Or your kids' college fund???

Solid brand, a bit on the high side of the pricing scale, compared to similar performing brands. We sold quite a few Nikko separates, hardly any service issues. The factory was nice to deal with and never questioned the few warranty issues we came across. Customers seemed very happy with what they bought, even had referrals from customers who bought Nikko components. Not sure what they're going for these days, but if I had the extra room (I have enough extra speakers), I'd spring for the stack for $400.
