Statement type mid tunnel
I was wondering about the theory/design and possibility of using the hybrid TL mid section
of the Statement family of designs.I have a 3-way diy speaker for my front mains in my HT
setup with active X-over DCX2496. I built them 10 yrs. ago before I had much knowlege
about the hobby.I have a ESS AMT on top running dipole, with a 5" morel in a too small sealed
cabinet covering 120hz.-1200hz. and a 12" titanic MK1 for bass duties.Anyway never been too
happy with the mids and want to change the driver and either increase mid chamber volume or
open up the back or do a TL tunnel like the statements. The two mid woofers I"m considering
are the SS Revelator15W/8530K or the Seas W15CY, I know both are capable of use in a open
baffle design. So my question is how do I determine my best option, and can I copy the mid
tunnel design of the Statements scaled up to those woofers?I would like to have both the mids
and the AMT running dipole if possible. Being a newbie and recovering lurker I need some good
advice because it will be a big investment of time and money. It sounds really good now but
I know the mids can sound so much better.

I don't have any answers for you, but I do have some suggestions.
Why don't you just try a larger cabinet for the Morel or a mid-tunnel?
Why not go fully dipole from mid-bass up?
I suspect you are not getting a nice lower mid-bass from your system - why not use the Titantic
only for a sub (which it is) and use a nice open baffle L+R that would sound great with your
DCX2496 - you could even mod them and use your great ESS AMT tweeter:

Re: Statement type mid tunnel
donradick, thanks for the reply, I definetly want to change the Morel to one of the other drivers.
I can gain some cone area and the excursion on the Morel is very limited. On another forum Curt
did'nt think those woofers could handle open baffle down to 120hz. So probably am going to make
the mid chamber volume larger to optimum size for the SS or Seas woofers (sealed).
