The V-8 WAS a 455 Pontiac BTW. All my top speeds were confirmed either by the time traps at Hallet Motorspeedway or by my HI-Po buddy's RADAR/Laser speed gun and I have print-outs on all of them. Fastbike TALKS a great story but I'll bet $10,000 he can't turn a lap with me on ANY bike and me on my 1964 Honda SuperHawk 305. He's read all the magazine articles but never busted a knuckle pulling a RAT block by his own admission. It took me a week and a half and at night (cooler) but in June I installed Gibson long tube headers, a high-flow cat, and a Borla exhaust on my 2004 Dodge Dakota in my driveway with my oxygen tank laying beside me, with-out an engine hoist, so don't cry-baby WHINE about being disabled to me, thank-you very little.
    Well there you go
What was the rear wheel HP on the 1.8L?

My 2000 ZRX1100 makes 127 with cams, header and pod filters; tops out at 160mph (indicated).
Those Haybusa's are insanely fast; my neighbor would shoot past me on his at 180+mph like I was standing still.

I suspect this was written by a Brit as all the engines listed are all turbo's, and yes, the turbos made 1hp/cc... for a couple laps.

And Johnny has the best perspective...
"The reason we build so many ported enclosures is because we have convinced each other to do so."
To which I'll add: " why else would we come here?"

    Qualifying it is then

OOPS. Did they put that in an Alfa Syder?

Well, no I4 engine can spin to 18000 rpm, right?! Even the famous BMW F1 1.5l turbo (block from the 1600-2002) redlined at 11000.

    I'm done.

Ok, I'll quit expecting Whitney to deal with facts. But before I stop on this thread, he clearly wrote MPH, not KPH. Any one can research Alfa's history. I've never made any comments about RAT motors, I've never owned a Chevy.

what is a gvz 500 ? were you sponsered by suzuki and is this one of thier factory bikes ? is this a 2 stroke or 4 stroke ? they made 2 strokes in the 70's, gt 750 triples, i special ordered a rg 500 in 1985, holder of the land spped stock record. share the info on this bike. there is nothing coming up on the web. just to add a little, i do not know what you did to get it to run 200 plus, but calculting the gear ratio and horsepower you would need to get there you either have gearing so tall you would need to go around daytona 20 laps to get it up to speed or you where putting out way more horsepower than anyone knows how to get out of 500 cc's. my rg500 was sent to yoshi in california, lightened, suspension and brake work done, engine rebuilt and dyno tested at 141 hp. full blown bracket race bike. i was a 165 lb at the time and was timed on a track and the speed calculated and never ran over a 180 mph. not asying it can not be done, but it would sure take a very speacial built bike.

Seems to me there's an awful lot of sarcasm to the extreme here through itsy-bitsy ports and tiny little 4-bangers... sounds like a lot of huffing and chuffing to me.

All you said was that there were no direct injected gasoline engines until a few years ago. You didn't qualify it as a car engine or Alfa engine.

Can't argue wit dat: guilty as charged, BUT, I figured you would add 2 + 2 and get 4.
Turns out that direct injection has a much longer history in car gas engines than I thought. But in that particular Afla head, I don't think so!
I was lulled a little bit into making my statement by the number other questionable performance figures in the post we are analyzing.

for what its worth, not dealing with cars.....

Suzuki/Arctic cat patented a direct injection system in the early 1990s, possibly the 1980s if my memory is off a bit. Unfortunate for them, somebody in house put the brakes on the idea saying it was not feasable. Bout a decade and a half later and Skidoo made history with this great direct injection system coming into the market. I think it started with Evinrude outboards (also a bombardier company) So I guess direct injection has been around for a while.

Yeah, it was just an interesting tidbit of info that I was aware of as my A&P school had a cutaway of that engine and we learned a bit about it. I know everyone was talking cars at the time. No offense meant towards you.
