    Default Bookshelf for bedroom

    Hi, I'm Azran from Malaysia.

I would like to ask if my budget 'recipes' below could work :

    Amp : Lepai TA2020+ 20W X2 : http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=310-300

Tweeters : Any tweeter that sound nice and could blend very well with mids chosen. Aiming at SB Acoustics SB29RDC (Ring Radiator)

    Mids : Tang Band W5-704D 5 1/4" : http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=264-850

    Woofer : Dayton Audio DC200-8 8" Woofer : http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=295-310

Cross-over : My friend will DIY all of them (passives xover)

Enclosure : My friend will DIY it all (probably vented for the woofer)

The source would be my PC for watching movies and listening to FLAC/MP3 but it's NOT for near-field listening

My question would be, is the Lepai Amp enough for normal listening level in my 30' X 15' bedroom ? The distance from the bookshelf and listening location would be around 10' t0 13'.

Why i choose Lepai amp would be that it's very cheap and very light in weight (it's important to be lightweight as the courier fee can be very expensive) ?

Is my 'recipes' ok ? Or u guys have other recommendations ? Thanks in advance

If you are so close to China, why not buy from a local distributor? There must be something out there

Partly depends on the type of music you listen to and how loud you intend to play it.
That's a pretty good size bedroom; actually bigger than my living room.
That amp will only deliver <10Wpc into an 8-ohm speaker and will be stretched thin at high volume levels.

I used the DC200 in a sealed design "Acorns" and its satisfactory for mild bass, but I wouldn't recommend it for hip-hop, techno or hard rock, at least not sealed.

Takitaj built the Tikki Lau D8, which uses the drivers you mentioned.

However, I doubt that 20WPC is enough to power 2 8" woofers. I'd go for the AudioSource AMP100

However, I'd still look for something in the 100+ WPC if you're looking to power a dual woofer 3-way.

Seems to me that a man that can afford enough house to include a 30 x 15 bedroom in Malaysia is one WEALTHY mofo. Unless those dimensions are in decimeters, and if so, mea culpa.

My advice? Buy or build something bada$$, like the Statement monitors. If you truly need to go on the cheap, build my Duellati. PM me if you need info, but they're a budget MTM that will do a decent job of filling that space for next to nothing.

    Thx for all replies

Sidi : yeah, there is some china 'things' flooded into my country but not much on 'raw' speaker and if they do, u can't really trust the spec given do u ?

Ludo : I only listen at normal listening level, not too loud, very seldom Rap dan Hip Hop. Mostly Pop, and sometimes RnB type.

Kmibb : Thx for the suggestion . What about this amp : http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=302-654 ? Power a bit lower, cheaper and most importantly lighter. Ok or not ok ?

Mark65 : I'm in my parents house and i'm living in a state that not so developed, so house and land still not very expensive. My parents both are only teachers but they can afford to buy a double storey bungalow but we are still not that rich like u imagined

Or is there any woofer that still can go low, but high efficiency, not so pricy and most importantly lightweight ?

And what about this amp : http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=300-383 ?

It can't drive 4 ohm speaker, but i can put resistor in series to add resistance right ? The power is quite plenty and lightweight too

Not good idea. If you want higher sensitivity, this will ruin that, as well as make the woofer alignment a lot worse than it was.
Series resistance to woofers is more often than not a very bad idea.
