  • Santa brought me an OmniMic V2

OK so I made my first measurement and whoa, look at that falling HF response. I am using the psuedo-pink noise "only to" and measuring about 3-4 ft from speaker about 30 from floor. Am I doing something wrong? It sure dose not sound like it looks. It sounds better than this. Am I doing something wrong?

Nope that isn't it. The low end changes a bit but the high end remains the same. ??

yes, I hope i loaded it correctly. I'll do it again just in case but I went through the procedure. I'll let you know if that is it.

what exactly are you measuring? if its a single exteded range driver, it might be acurate.

Re: Santa brought me an OmniMic V2

I am measuring a complete 3 way loudspeaker (one) Details can be found on the Lambda build thread. Recently I replaced a Dynaudio 17W75 in one with a Peerless 830883. Other DIY'ers have suggested (very strongly I might add) that the dynaudio is not a good driver. I can only tell by a very quick assessment is that the 2 speakers sound close but I am comparing one at a time. When I look at other fr plots I don't remember seeing it drop off like that on the high end.

Yes. You need to be measuring using the short sine sweep if you want accurate high freqency response. The pink noise measurement has limited usefulness in designing a speaker.

OK so I redid it with ss sweep also removed a bit of attenuation on the tweeter. Now it looks like I have dips/peaks.

There is something wrong here. Your impluse response is waaaaaaaaay too ragged. This pretty much negates any response curve you see above it. What distance are you measuring at? Something is just not right.

Ha ha Damn beginners!! I am measuring from 3-4 ft away on axis. I do have diffusers in the room (?).

I inverted the tweeter and the dip is not as bad. Needs more attenuation on the mid and possible tweeter.

I didn't capture it here but the impulse is just as bad. No change there. OK so now where do I go from here Thanks for you help.

OT (a little) but this was the DOTD a few days ago. If it was bought new from PE fairly recently you might be able to get $100 refund or in parts exchange.

Jimbones, There is definitely something wrong. I wouldn't modify a crossover based on the curves at this point. I have personally never experienced curves like you are getting, so I am not sure what it going on. Maybe Bill W. will see this and have an idea.
