You can count the movies made in 7.1 on one hand, I have NEVER heard of a movie released in 9.1. The first # tells how many separate audio channels are in the mix. The .1 behind the channel # means the LFE channel. Your best bet is to save your money and buy a good 5.1 AVR and then the best speakers you can afford.Leave a comment:

I just saw an AVR with 9.1 capabilities. Tell me if I'm correct on this. When they make movies they don't put separate audio on each of these 9 lines do they? If this is the case why not just get a 5.1 DSP and chain some amps together and send it the same signal. Same with .1, .2, .3, etc. right?
If this is not the case what are the majority of DVD and Blue-Ray movies on the market that use more than 5 channels and 1 LFE channel?
