You may need to go to 4 pole to get a 90 degree connnector. 4 pole is compatible with 2 pole - the other two just won't go to anything if you mate a 2 with a 4. Personally, all I buy are 4 pole plugs or jacks - just to keep one type in stock that works for everything.
Speakon's heavier duty STX series 4-pole chassis mount connectors and cable end connectors are available in either of both sexes.

We are building him a new cabinets. The speaker connection at the amp is 1/4in. He wants speakon connections at the cabinets. There are 2 cabinets so he can use 1 or depending on where he is playing. He is wanting to use the 90deg units. I will make the cables myself to keep them as short as possible. I just need an understanding of which males to use with which females.

Speakon connectors are for speaker cables, not guitar amp inputs. If you are in fact, talking about the speaker lines - just take the output from the amp (whatever type of connector) and run it to the speaker (whatever type of connector). I've never used speakons before, but I like the idea that they lock in so that they can't be pulled out of your speaker by accident.

    speakon connection

A friend is wanting to use these on his guitar cabinets. He will be going from 1/4" to speakon. Which input jack and such do I need to look at?
