  • Happy Birthday to me! : )

Ok.. it's actually nowhere near my birthday but it may as well be.. look what fell into my lap yesterday. I saw an ad on the local classifieds for a pair of speaker boxes for sale in "non working" condition, so I go to check them out and this is what I find.. a pair of partially complete Yorkville TX3 boxes..

One of the woofers was missing and when I pulled the other out there wasn't much left to it

But when I popped the access panel off the back the compression drivers were present and accounted for.. which if where my early birthday present comes in.

For those that aren't aware that's $600 in 2" exit compression drivers that I scored for...... $60!!:applause:

I have to assume the driver itself was dropped.. the cabinets have the typical road rash but are otherwise solid so I don't think they were part of the incident. Still puzzles me why somebody would bother reinstalling half a speaker... maybe there is an interesting story behind these things.

" I want to sell you all this cool stuff and have no idea what it does. Maybe it will time travel. Buy it and find out!"

            UNREAL.

Cool find. That's the stuff that gets me to spend a ton of free time searching craigslist.

Just an update on these drivers. I'd have to say the vast majority of systems I have heard in the past with 2" exit comps ranged anywhere from acceptable to downright ugly with most of them tending towards the ugly end of it with very harsh midrange. I have heard that these DE750s were relatively good sounding but I was pleasantly surprised just how good they are after a short testing session. With an LR24 800hz active crossover output is very clean and open sounding even at high levels. Now the challenge will be matching them with LF driver/s to make the most of the output potential.

One page I read, said that system put out 22,000 watts.
