Mid PA driver replacement options

I have an older 3 piece carvin PA( folded 18 sub, 2x10 mid, horn) I am needing to replace the 10s and wondered what cheaper driver I could use in the mean time until I could afford some beta 10s or something along those lines.
There is a lot of talk on the interweb that the replacement carvins are not very good, so...
I have noticed talk about the MCM driver being good and also wondered about the Dayton counterpart.
Anyone have any input on the quality of these or others out there would greatly be appreciated.

You will need a proper mid/bass driver to get any actual midrange out of these things, the two drivers you linked are more dedicated woofers that will have poor upper bass/mid output. The correct driver for this will have a relatively high FS and a higher average sensitivity with rising response that extends into the 2-3khz range which is a typical characteristic for a guitar speaker(surprise), an example of this is the Eminence Alpha 10a.. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=290-403

These have to be mounted in a seperate sub enclosure of course to shield them from the larger woofer and with a high pass filter of something between 250hz to 500hz depending upon the response of the 18.

Because of your use, you do not need a driver that has any real bass response, so don't worry about that. Both drivers you linked to are designed more for full range applications where bass is necessary. I would look at the Celestion TF1020 (this assumes a ported cab) . If it is a sealed box, look at the Eminence Alpha, or perhaps the Selenium 10PW3, it has quite an extended response, that you will like. I would not try and save money, then upgrade, That ends up penny wise/pound foolish. Besides, any of these drivers listed should work well, and not need replacing.

Thanks alot guys. Those Seleniums do look rather nice. Think I might go with those. Price isn't too bad either.

I know it's a little more $$, but don't overlook the Emi Delta 10A.
