Ported horns

I have been looking at the EAW SB1000 subs for quite a while and have been trying to get them figured out, does anybody have any web pages that you could refer me to that would help in explaining the design? Are there any programs available for designing or modeling them? I have Bass-Box, but I don't see where it will help with horns.

The SB1000 isn't a horn, it's a manifold loaded bandpass.

So, is there anyplace I can go to get more information on this type of cabinet? It sparks my interest as I seen several shows using this cabinet and it seems to do quite a job.

The SB1000 is nothing more than a reflex cab with a unique driver mounting that facilitates packing more drivers into a given frontal area... a benefit for touring productions. This makes the cabinet deeper but that is no concern where there is usually lots of room under stages. Here's a link to cabinet designs that should keep you busy for a while..

I see the bass reflex ports up in front of the cabinet, the element of my curiosity is the slot vent in the rear of each chamber of the cabinet feeding through the center to the front angle opening. that is what made me to improperly decide to call it a ported horn. Included is the picture I seen, exposing the rear vent if you look carefully. As always, I appreciate any information given. Paul, thanks for the link, yes it does have several designs that look interesting.

I had a little info on those subs in my files. Some time ago, I was doing research on the "Eighteen Sound" 18-LW1400 driver and these subs (SB-1000z) came up. I think these links will likely lead you to more information about these boxes; I really like them too, particularly with the 18sound drivers (RCF's are okay as well)!

Here's a neat site for horn enclosures : http://hornplans.free.fr/tl4050.html the example i linked to on the site is a JBL ported horn design. I love the EV TL4050 but those aren't ported.

Someone mentioned a manifold design... weell here's about the baddest sub ever! http://hornplans.free.fr/mtl4.html I remember hearing 8 pf these(4 per side) used in a 10,00 sq.ft club years ago for Big Head Todd and the Monsters. I could feel the kick drum in my chest 75 feet away! Each one had a Crown MacroTech 5000 feeding it.

Not really. The bandwidth was limited and sensitivity was nothing out of the ordinary. With a 50Hz f0 by today's standards it barely qualifies to be called a subwoofer.

Examples probably exist, it is just a simple manifold bandpass box. You just need to use drivers that can go lower in a cab with appropriate size and tuning.
