  • PRV Audio reviews?

Has anyone ran across any good info on the reliability of PRV products? Some of their subs look very nice, but if they don't hold up while gigging, or are way out of spec, then they are not worth buying...

    Hi Duane,

Kinda curious, also. That 21" woofer in the sales flyer has the specs, xmax esp. A 6" voice coil--BOOM!!!
I can't afford to research it.

I saw that also. It needs a small box for its size. I could see using 6-8 of those for built in sound in a club because of the look!

        Re: PRV Audio reviews?

I had my suspicions about the origins of this brand when they first appeared up here in the northern hemisphere, the products bore a striking resemblance to Selenium products and it would appear this is no accident as the company was founded by several former engineers and executives from Selenium. This says nothing about the products they could be great or they could be crap and I have no experience with them so I don't know which it is.. just sharing what I have dug up.

I have the PRV D280-TI 1" titanium horn drivers in my PA. I beat the stuffings out of my stuff on the road and they've never failed me. For clarity, they knock the socks off my Peavey RX14s.

I did a Google search for PRV. Usually the largest number of forum posts are questions, and most of those are of the same nature as yours, "has anyone ever heard of...". That held true. The second most often are complaints about, or recommendations to stay away from. I found none. Circumstantial evidence at best, but none of it negative.

ANYTHING knocks the socks off an RX14. I think they are the reason most 'cheap' cabs come with piezos. I would expect the 1" to be very much like the Seleniums. But any time the 2" start edging close to the $100 price point, it will get my attention.

That $550 21" has got my attention too - because I ran the numbers in Hornresp and got some unexpected results. It turns out to be a better acosutical impedance match (for a big hypothetical horn design) than anything in the B&C lineup. Efficiency minimum of 35% with one cab. The TBW18's will give just as good a small signal response, but only get to 30% in a 4-pack and run out of excursion sooner. But if the motors heat up and compress, if the Xmax is bogus, or if the cones flex (or shred) it doesn't buy anything. From the specs and descriptions, the PRV's look good, but this is often deceiving. And it will cost $550 and a couple of sheets of Araucoply to 'research'......
