  • eta zero?

    Hey!

The specs for a B&C neo 12 include a parameter called "eta zero."

Could someone please, in small Ray Alden words (as opposed to large Vance Dickason words) explain the eta zero parameter.

    Thanks!
    Jeff

Since it's expressed as a percentage I'd say it's electrical to acoustical conversion efficiency, though the standard name for that spec is No. 4.1% is about right for a 99dB sensitive driver.

It really IS the same thing. The Greek letter "Eta" is the standard symbol for efficiency, not just in acoustics. The capital letter looks like a script capital "N". Because special symbols don't always print out properly, confusion is avoided by just using the "N". Subscripts don't always print properly either, hence the "o" for "sub zero". It's Microsoft-proof and compatible with a plain text file.

What confusing is the use of No, a word, for a spec. I guess Theile had his reasons, but something like Eta would have been a better choice.
