  • B-52 Matrix 1000v2, Subwoofer "popping"

B-52 Matrix 1000v2 system. Bought used around 2011. System worked perfect. System only works about 6 times a year (if that!). Last time a few months ago, sub started "popping". I talked to several places, and the one place I've known and trusted for years said replace the sub, the cost of rebuild was close to same. They suggested the Eminence Kappa-15LFA, but for cost I went with the Dayton Audio Pro PA380-8. Spec differences are nominal, the Dayton had excellent reviews.

Fired it up this morning, let it run about 20-30 minutes at low, and started slowly increasing volume. New speaker is also popping at modest levels (this is in my house in living room). It would never hold up to a night of dance tunes.

The v2 is supposed to already have built in compression/limiter.

Any help, suggestions, greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hmmm...probably not the driver. Have you talked with anyone at B-52?

No, I haven't. I will though, thank you.

Likely a bad solder joint somewhere near the built-in amplifier's output. Not that difficult to find if you know your way around an amplifier's electronics.
